Historia
Does your toaster oven make you feel shamefully inadequate with his lofty ideals and Jeffersonian views of the world? Is the letter Q the wrong shade of yellow? Are you frequently bothered by abstract images and geometric shapes falling from the sky? If so, this book can help. The Toaster Oven Mocks Me is a humorous memoir that chronicles Steve's discovery, concealment, and eventual acceptance of synesthesia.

THANK YOU
Revisado: 04-17-22
Thank you for writing about your experiences of being a synesthete. I also see calendars and timelines the way you do and was excited to listen to you describe yours because I wasn't aware that my calendar was also a part of my synesthesia. I see sound. When I listen to music, the sound "hologram" inside my head looks like the opening scenes of Fantasia. I am sensitive to sound and can get quite crumpy listening to progressive jazz or anything baroque because it looks like a Jackson Pollock painting to me. Numbers and letters have personalities but not color. Anyway, thank you again for sharing your story.

Cloud Atlas begins in 1850 with Adam Ewing, an American notary voyaging from the Chatham Isles to his home in California. Along the way, Ewing is befriended by a physician, Dr. Goose, who begins to treat him for a rare species of brain parasite.... Abruptly, the action jumps to Belgium in 1931, where Robert Frobisher, a disinherited bisexual composer, contrives his way into the household of an infirm maestro who has a beguiling wife and a nubile daughter....

Read the Book!
Revisado: 05-08-13
What made the experience of listening to Cloud Atlas the most enjoyable?
The author is a virtuoso of voice. The storytelling is engaging and the readers do an excellent job! The first chapter is difficult, but if you get past that, then you will find the book as satisfying as a Thanksgiving meal.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Sun-Mi, and I can't tell you why because it will spoil it for you.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No.
If you could take any character from Cloud Atlas out to dinner, who would it be and why?
All of them because they all have interesting stories to tell.
Any additional comments?
I hear that the movie isn't great, but the book is excellent. Don't dismiss the book because of the movie.

Historia
Kate Chopin's novel The Awakening, published 1899, drew a storm of criticism for its "shocking, morbid, and vulgar" story and quickly went out of print. The novel was not resurrected until the 1950s, when participants in the growing women's movement recognized its importance. Today, The Awakening is among the most-read American novels in colleges and universities and is considered an early example of American realism.

Boring and Not Read Well
Revisado: 05-08-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Someone who likes stories about bourgeois boredom. I could not get past the way the narrator was reading, and the story didn't really grab me at all.
What didn’t you like about Walter Zimmerman’s performance?
Too pedantic.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I couldn't get past the first two chapters.
Any additional comments?
Get a different reader and see if it makes a difference.

Tim Curry Reads Well, But the Story is Meh
Revisado: 10-30-12
What made the experience of listening to Journey to the Center of the Earth: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry the most enjoyable?
Tim Curry does an excellent job of reading the characters differently and reading in general. This is a professional actor and it shows.
Would you recommend Journey to the Center of the Earth: A Signature Performance by Tim Curry to your friends? Why or why not?
I would recommend it to someone who is deeply interested in Geology, but if you are looking for a story with character transformations or events which are deeply significant, then don't look here.
I would recommend the story to be made into an interactive, serious game for those who are learning about Geology concepts. The story is engaging enough to keep the learner interested without getting in the way of what is to be learned. I did learn a lot about Geology.
What about Tim Curry’s performance did you like?
Tim Curry is a great actor.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, not in the least.
