Historia
Things have gone bad among the colonies. Insurgents are building alien-hybrid armies and planet-killing weapons, threatening to upend the fragile balance of power in Province 921. There's not only trouble in the province—the Core Worlds are igniting as well. The Mogwa have asserted claims upon the Imperial Throne, causing their rivals to move against them. Earth's Hegemony and the rebels are pulled into a conflict that could tear the galaxy apart.

Repetitive and no continuity editing
Revisado: 03-31-25
This book is the worst of the series for the overall state. Many of them have some issues but this one has entire sections out of order and relying on what must be multiple ideas in the draft. It doesn't feel like it was edited at all. The narrator does his usual good job which has the usual Budika annoying voice. If the issue a rerelease with a new version I'll try again but by chapter 26 it was too much in this version.

Historia
When an ambitious teenage girl from Earth finds herself in a magical realm, she could be the hero—but she'd prefer to be the villain. When power-hungry Everly is reborn into a medieval world where elemental magic rules and she receives her elemental servants—the oddly sadistic Eris and the fun-loving Titania—years earlier than one typically would, she knows she's destined for a command of necromantic magic the likes of which her peers can only dream.

Surprisingly enjoyable
Revisado: 01-21-25
I've watched the villainess anime shows and read a few over the top things where people are kind of villains, but this really takes the cake. After reading some of the review I thought I'd hate it, but there is something satisfying with someone who is actually both a crazy megalomaniac and the same level of delusional as Shadow from The Eminence in Shadow while also being truly despicable. She is like the Raymond Reddington of isekai protagonists.
The story itself has a little bit of pacing issues and the VA does her best, but most characters sound like one of 3 people, but she really does do a good job with the crazy ones. Warning some of them might sound like Harley Quinn talkin bout Mista J.

Hilarious take on a hero
Revisado: 12-17-24
While the title is about a villainess, the stort is about a heroine. The over the top voice acting and the young woman's utter lack of common sesense makes the book a continual laugh. This is obviously going to be a very epepisodic series to don't expect a complete resolution in a single book.

Great series with a few flaws but ends well
Revisado: 12-13-21
As a spoiler, I'll say that this is the last book of the main series. The heavy religious themes didn't bother me, but may bother some. If you are looking for death flags, don't, because the author cheats and just uses them everywhere so you won't know the ending. It is a fun ride overall.

After her apprenticeship was done and a place in the guild of villains secured, Tori's life was supposed to get simpler. Unfortunately, a poorly timed errand sees Tori caught in the debut of a new team of capes, one wearing an all-too-familiar name. Thrust into the spotlight, Tori will have to navigate her unwanted fame as well as the suspiciously superheroic new neighbors down the hall, all while keeping up with her own villainous enterprises. With the guild no longer a secret, Hephaestus needs to grow as strong as possible to face her mounting threats.

Eclipsed the first book
Revisado: 10-18-21
The story is even less about tory than the first book, but that's good. Again tory is used as a guide into the world of capes and villains, but since she is established it becomes more about the human elements. I hope another book comes out. The performance was good, but I liked it more for the story.

Overall disappointing
Revisado: 07-19-21
Not impressed with the plot or the characters. You are dumped into the world with little explanation abs while it is simple to eventually work out, the literary device doesn't help the story along. The narrator isn't great at distinguishing voices so it is hard to tell the difference in the characters, but she does a better job than the author. The random gratuitous sex thrown in doesn't improve the story and makes it feel as if this were a nanowrimo novel which pushed words out to increase the count. Sadly that's a tactic many use in that competition to get over the 50,000 word mark and this just did it to a much greater length. Won't listen or read the rest of the series.

Revisado: 06-29-20
Skippy and Bishop are my favorite, but the Mavericks are still great. Still I love the anthropomorphication of the missile AIs in these stories or in the main series the nuclear warheads. This had only one instance. I want more. The missiles are always fun. Now if only Amazon can make it such that it stops losing my reviews as the book is ending that'd be nice.

The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated. Entire star systems - and billions of people - are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization. This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction...and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known.

Lazy writing and a mediocre performance
Revisado: 04-20-20
I saw that the conclusion of this series was up on Audible a few days ago and decided to take a break from listening to The Expanse. I've not read or listened to many Scalzi books, but I had listened to the prior books in this series, however with this book it went from mediocre to lazy. The overall feel is that he "George Lucas'd" it. Yes he wrapped up a lot, though not all of the plots, but in order to do that he raced through most of them. I understand the desire for a tight narrative, but Scalzi didn't really even bother to do that. Yet again the constant stream of vulgarities are what use most of the word count on a page, but at least one character bothered to point it out in an almost 4th wall breaking conversation. Wil Wheaton's performance on this book was almost phoned in. In the prior books and in the other Scalzi book I listened to, Wil had significantly better ability to differentiate between characters in conversations. This time he showed a distinct lack of vocal range and even then dropped accents in the middle that he was using to make characters distinct in conversations. Since most of the book is talking, it was pretty confusing. Wil is already limited compared to many narrators in the ability to differentiate his intonation, cadence and accent, so this made it pretty confusing at times.
All in all this book and the narration seems as if it were a book done just to pump another book out. There are many of the newer less established Sci Fi authors that can release longer running series that are far better work in 6 to 9 month intervals. If you have to choose between this and Skippy the Magnificent, I'd just go ahead and choose Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force. It is a more interesting thing to listen to and the narrator is worlds better. If you are already 2 books in and absolutely have to finish go ahead, but set your expectations low and hopefully you won't be disappointed.

Awesome short story
Revisado: 11-01-19
If you like Adam Baldwin and the hit libertarian space cowboy TV series, with 5 seasons and 3 blockbuster movies, you'll love this book. If you are from a lame dimension where the same TV series didn't finish a complete season, then you'll at least get to enjoy the strange happenings of an interdimensional insurance agent.
Seriously though this book is hilarious. Adam Baldwin does a great job. I sure hope someone can Adam Baldwin into doing this again.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Mediocre story poor narration
Revisado: 11-01-19
The book has relatively few characters, however the narrator provides so little context clues as to who is talking that conversations are basically unintelligible. The overall story is bland, but perhaps another narrator would have made it more interesting. The book has lots of song lyrics, which can be problematic in a book for narration, but that wasn't the worst part of the narration.
