Historia
Some days, it doesn't pay to get out of bed. That's what crosses Clint Evans's mind the minute he takes on the four thugs holding heiress Julie Rose hostage. It isn't the danger that has Clint in a lather, but Julie herself. The pretty, petite schoolteacher he's been hired to return to her wealthy fiance is no fainting trust-fund baby. She's more of a hellcat, one who won't be deterred when she sets her sights on something. And her sights are set on Clint. The one rule Clint never breaks is this - don't get involved with the client. He can look, but he definitely cannot touch.

this woman is a predator
Revisado: 04-27-25
ruined potential. concept sounded good, but it was quickly lost the second the h was introduced. she's just icky.
imagine everything she says, but coming from a man. after the woman has made it plain that the situation is inappropriate he just keeps pushing and pawing. just think about if the characters were reversed.
The H was very tolerant and did his best to keep himself under control, and as harmless as possible, which would normally be a big deal in situations like this.
but she's just all over him, she's all about that D. i mean i guess everyone handles trauma differently, but WOW.... I'm not believing this plot point. i can't remember if i used a credit for this title or not. after looking at the others in this series, seeing that they are free, I'm guessing not.
not inspired to try them out if they're all like this.

In the legal world, everyone knows my last name. So when Declan Shaw—the hottest, most ruthless, and sought-after litigator in the state—comes in to mentor my class’s mock trial, I decide not to reveal that piece of personal information. I want a one-on-one with him like I’m any other law student, especially when we go out to celebrate after class. But the one-on-one ends with us in the alley behind the bar.

High hopes in free fall
Revisado: 04-24-25
i wanted to like this book. i enjoyed the beginning, their attractions, interlude and passion. but H was beginning to grate on my nerves immediately. No worries. tha'ts the point of these stories, right? so i kept at it. But he just kept getting worse.
and as for the h... wow. look, i only dabbled in law and i could have chewed him up and spit him out in mere seconds after that "big reveal" which was actually a total wasted opportunity. the man needed humbling for his part in the so called fiasco but, nah... we're not gonna do that. we're just gonna pretend like he's the innocent victim and she's trash.. And really, of all the things for this guy to get mad about?? What a total hypocrite.
and Her?! we're supposed to believe the became lawyer because she grew up arguing and making herself heard?
No... you see, i also dabbled in psychology and, just.... No. both of these people... No. She's a doormat and he's a creep who will walk all over her. And he will be sure to keep his doormat right at the "back door" if you get my meaning.
He REALLY likes that back door. not that there's anything wrong with it, but THAT is a pretty big leap for two people who have only just begun a relationship, probably bigger than losing her V card. I just lost all interest at that point. no way would i want either of them defending me for as much as a parking ticket.
I'm no prude, i've read way worse, but i have also read way better and this was just a snorefest. Half of the chapters in this book could have been removed to make the story less boring. it just dragged on and on and on in the most boring places, and then it sped through scenes that would have actually been fun to explore. Like at one point i was thinking she would knock the table over and say "you know what? I am actually pretty terrible at this. i made a mistake with my career and i want to do something else." there could have been an ACTUAL scandal in the family where she confides her TRUE passion and he just runs interference and covers for her as she swan-dives into what she really loves..
No.. that didn't happen. They argued.. ate some food.. argued.. cooked and ate some food. argued some more, made passionate woopy. argued some more, ate some more food. then they argued before making passionate love again. and when they were done they ate some more food.
I honestly wish i hadn't been so committed to a possible turnaround and just gotten my credit back. there are better stories out there. In reality these two people wouldn't have lasted longer than a couple of years. maybe even a couple of hours. i know we read to escape reality, but some things you just can't ignore.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Revisado: 02-18-25
As old as it is, i can't believe i never heard of it in my quest for all things werewolf AND WWII related. i just don't know how it escaped my notice! I wish i'd been able to read it when it was new. but, better late than never i suppose.
Most of the characters were great. the bad guys were REALLY bad and their motivation realistic. i didn't like the actress. i found her unreasonable and without compassion, especially concerning Mouse. I don't care how "useful" she was or what talents she possessed. I would have preferred to see her abandoned after the opera.... she was a convenient plot device, and the author was determined to keep her around. The big game hunter was also weird side plot... didn't seem realistic (and i know that's ironic considering this is a story about a werewolf!)
either way, the story was good. it had emotion, it held my attention. it was memorable. i have recommended it to several people who like the genre of history and folklore. People don't write like this anymore.

Classic Wolverine
Revisado: 12-28-24
it leaves me with more questions than answers. mostly pertaining to the previous book. i dont know if there is an order or if they stand alone. the plot and subplot worked well together. i dont know what that other review was whining about. there is no anti anything in here. it merely addressed extremists and the ways they can be exploited and manipulated. that's a good lesson from anyone and the entire basis of the X-men as a whole, which is "no matter how virtuous you think yourself or your cause, there will always be infighting, power struggles, discrimination and greed.
what makes Wolverine so likeable is how he understands this and still chooses to defend the innocents and fight evil on his own terms, not anyone elses.

In all his history Wolverine was never indifferent towards children.
Revisado: 12-18-24
that flaw stood out the most and really bothered me. anyone who reads the original comics would know this to be true because that soft spot often got Wolverine into the worst trouble. there was no requirement for mutants only. in the issue titled Promises to Keep Wolverine's last comments reveal innocence is the only thing that brings him joy.
otherwise, yeah its a well written story. it flows well, the concept is original and very well done.

I have a nice life—living in my hometown and owning the coffee shop I’ve worked at since I was 16. It’s comfortable on paper, but I’m tired of doing everything by myself. Tired of being in charge of every decision in my life. I want someone to lean on, someone to spend time with, sit with, hug. And I really don’t want to go to my best friend’s wedding alone. So, I signed up for a dating app and agreed to meet with the first guy that messaged me. Now here I am, at the bar. Only it’s not my date that just sat down in the chair across from me. It’s his dad.

Rots your teeth it's so sweet
Revisado: 12-17-24
it's a great story if you want something fluffy, predictable and sweet and not at all deep. i was cringing by chapter 27... i just don't believe people act this way outside of teenage fantasy. but it's romance, that's its job, except... it kinda went TOO far.
the woman is supposed to be in her 30s, runs a business..and has the insecurities of a ln 28 year old. given what happened to her in the past i just can't buy it. it's actually really annoying at times.
both characters are pretty one dimensional. i keep reminding myself that it's JUST fluff. but then i see a total of 89 chapters... 89 chapters of tooth rotting fluff?? i don't know if i can do it.
ninjas and black op paramilitary goons better show up soon. aliens, rabid camels, anything to shake it up. it can't just be dialog.

Good but what is wrong with the guy's voice?
Revisado: 11-07-24
it's rare that the sample hooks me, i usually need a little more to go on- which is why these reviews are handy... i only read a couple of them before listening to that sample then i went ahead and spent my credit.
all was going great until the male narrator started speaking. the guy speaks likes he's clenching his teeth and straining his neck. like what sort of vibe is he going for? rage hulk gym rat? yuck.... as for one reviewer complaining about the girl crying a lot.... i guess that comes later? because so far she's only mentioned her inability to cry.
hopefully i can get used to it. otherwise i'll just return it and find a hard copy to read the old fashioned way.

Historia
The first night I met Gillian Taylor, she claimed she was a pilot. Then she claimed she worked for a "private airline." I knew right then and there that she was lying to me, and that sexy as hell or not, she was the type of woman I needed to avoid. Still, after a pleasurable one-night stand, I was certain we'd never see each other again. Until I saw her in an airport a few weeks later.... Until I realized that we were both assigned to work the same flight. She was the flight attendant. I was the pilot.

not much in the way of personality
Revisado: 10-21-24
still worth the credit, but the characters didn't really have much "character" except for Miss Connors. shame about her. she should have had her own book.
the only noteworthy things about the female character was how much of a wimp she was towards her family, how unnecessarily toxic they were. which, if we're honest, accounts for her taste in men and attraction towards the male character (from a psychological POV...the lady has a definite type. it's not good. blame her family i guess.)
mr. weston was in dire need of therapy. giant neon "AVOID" sign should follow this guy. i was glad she actuallystoodupforherself, but was disappointed she didn't stick to her guns. i know... there would be no story, right?.
still, it got better towards the end. loose ends tied up, happily ever after. we can assume he magically changed his personality. everything settled about how you would imagine.
no regrets, it's a great fantasy.

I met him, the man of my dreams. On the worst day of my life. Catching my boyfriend out was bad. Coming out of the club in a daze, I stumbled upon a situation which was worse. Much worse. And it would have been deadly, too. If he wasn’t there to save me. My unsuspecting hero. He was rugged, wild, and powerful. The way he looked at me set me on fire.

couldn't finish
Revisado: 06-24-24
i dont like this multiple pov thing writers are doing lately. i REALLY DON'T like it when they have the other narrator doing their lines while we're visiting the other pov. i guess this somehow saves them from having to alter their voices to fit the gender.. i dont know. it's distracting and annoying.
i would rather read third person with one narrator.
as for the story. it has a good start but ...yeaugh....it goes like this "you're a silly dumb dumb for being angry at a situation you didn't put yourself in. Don't expect any sympathy from me!"
and now she has convince me these are people worth liking?
well, she couldn't.
no wonder her character's last relationship was a disaster. she has a soft spot for narcissists!
egad, will people ever stop trying to sell this trope?

The year 1866 was marked by a unique incident, a mysterious and inexplicable phenomenon, and rumors agitated the maritime population and excited the public mind, especially seafaring men. Merchants, common sailors, captains of vessels, skippers, both of Europe and America, naval officers of all countries, and the governments of several states on the two continents, were deeply interested in the matter.

as convenient as they are, i will never fully trust audiobooks. i have come across too many familiar stories that are inconsistent with their counterparts.
in the end i always feel cheated and suspicious of future purchases.
just buy the real thing and take advantage of the free audiobooks as often as you are able.
