AND LOVED IT!!!
The narrator took a little while to grow on me when speaking for Albert Smith, but when he started talking as Rex, it was too exciting! And, when the other animals--all of them--got involved in the storyline, it was even more fun!
Thank you! It's made a nice break from my normal mysteries, and I look forward to finishing the series!

Is it possible to clone Stephen Fry?!?!?
Revisado: 01-26-24
Having "read" all of this trilogy, it is my pleasure to say I would listen to Stephen Fry read the phone book (if one existed anymore)! He is an amazing narrator! The asides as he reads the story, the information he presents and the knowledge he has on the subject is mindblowing! Having read myths when I was a child and finding them fascinating then, it was so much fun to hear the stories again. He put characters in relationship to each other and events, which made it so much more real. Stephen Fry's ability to put parts of the stories in context with this timeline and mix fiction with reality in the stories was so much fun! What else is coming down the pike? I eagerly await the next Stephen Fry book!

It took a while but glad I stuck with it!
Revisado: 12-31-21
Wasn't expecting the brutal childhood stories, or the constant self-ridicule (calling yourself a coward has never been my experience. That it took him that long--decades--of trial and error (well, as he points out in the end, what else is life, really?) to finally get to a point of looking in the mirror and liking what he sees was amazing to me. Sad on the one hand, but “Aha! Finally!” on the other. It was brave of him to take total strangers on that ride. I’d’ve expected that kind of depth from a biographer, not an autobiographer. His story took me from feeling protective, to wondering how and why he made it so big, to not liking him, to wanting to slap him upside his head to knock some sense into him, to sitting back saying, “My goodness, how can he be so dense?”, to finally sitting forward saying, “Thank goodness! He gets it!” What a ride! Glad I stuck with the book. I’ve only stopped listening to one book and that was because the narrator’s voice grated. Will Smith has a knack for imitation, and it felt as if the people he “spoke” for were right there. That was fun. I’m glad his life has led him to where he is now, and I’m glad his family love him. Now he knows why they do!

My 1st Harlan Coben book! Looking forward to #2!
Revisado: 12-14-21
It didn't seem possible that someone could wait 6 years to find the answer to a question, but Jake did well! This was not a story where I saw the end coming! It was riveting and very enjoyable, especially with Scott Brick's narration.
I was able to keep the characters straight, which was a pleasant surprise (I tend to read a handful of authors so I am used to their characters). I'm happy to have another author to add to my list so while I wait for the next book to come out, I know where I'm going!
I fear if I say any more I'll spoil this for someone. Read this book! It's really good!

Historia
Most priests hear confessions. This one is making his. Rob Halford, front man of global iconic metal band Judas Priest, is a true "Metal God." Raised in Britain's hard-working, heavy industrial heartland, he and his music were forged in the Black Country. Confess, his full autobiography, is an unforgettable rock 'n' roll story—a journey from a Walsall council estate to musical fame via alcoholism, addiction, police cells, ill-fated sexual trysts, and bleak personal tragedy, through to rehab, coming out, redemption...and finding love.

Revisado: 08-27-21
I had been lent the hardcopy of this book, and had to return it. I saw it here on Audible so I bought it.
I am so glad I did! Imagine my surprise to be totally delighted by Rob Halford's narration of his own book! Excellent! I felt as if I were in "the black country" with his wonderful accent! He reads with such feeling--well, that makes sense!--that one might miss with reading the book. I have recommended this audiobook to people who have the hardcopy, just because of feeling as if you are there with Rob Halford! Amazing. Made me want to go to a Judas Priest concert just to have him sign something for me!

I have had my "fix" fed! All except for...
Revisado: 08-27-21
Constance's accent!!!
I know I'm not alone in missing Rene Auberjonois, but when you get used to hearing characters speak a certain way, it is really hard to not expect it. Hearing Constance speak as if she were pretending to be Katherine Hepburn was really difficult (well, all except for the reading of her note).
As far as the story line goes, it seemed like typical Pendergast! Like how Coldmoon is "moving" in and really like the idea of the "Leng Trilogy" as a promise.
But if that's the case, the story line will focus more on Constance than ever. Please stop having her character's voice be so like Katherine Hepburn! Don't get me wrong--I loved Katherine Hepburn! But when Mr. DeMerrit speaks for Constance it feels like a caricature, not a character.
Thanks for listening.

Historia
Long ago in Russia, a proclamation went out through all the land that whosoever could build a flying ship would win the hand of the Tsar's daughter. But when a country bumpkin and his oddball crew of extraordinary friends show up to claim her, the Tsar quickly has second thoughts. Robin Williams is hilarious as he narrates this retelling of a fantastical Russian folktale.

It was too exciting to hear Robin Williams act out the various characters of this story! And, while I’m not a huge fan of Klezmer music, it made me smile hearing it in this story, too! That each character’s voice was maintained is a tribute to his skills as an actor! More, please!

Why, oh, why???
Revisado: 05-13-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! The development of the characters is profound!
Which character – as performed by Robert Glenister – was your favorite?
Strike, then Robin, and now, Shanker. Wow!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Not sure about a tag line, but I'm still trying to figure out who would play these characters!!! (And do them justice!)
Any additional comments?
I truly wish that this author had written ten books, and doled them out slowly, but had them in the wings so we wouldn't have to wait!!! I loved Strike AND Robin from the first book, and everything went perfectly in the second book! That Robin's character would develop to the point of my wishing she were a real person so I could chat with her in this third book is testament to the author's ability to develop plot and characters to such a degree that I wish I knew what was going to happen next. I hope what I wish happens, but...it's anyone's guess, isn't it? This book ended so abruptly, I can only imagine how the next book starts!!!

A long-buried family secret resurfaces when one of Aloysius Pendergast's most implacable enemies shows up on his doorstep as a murdered corpse. The mystery has all the hallmarks of the perfect murder, save for an enigmatic clue: a piece of turquoise lodged in the stomach of the deceased. The gem leads Pendergast to an abandoned mine on the shore of California's desolate Salton Sea, which in turn propels him on a journey of discovery deep into his family's sinister past.

Revisado: 06-13-15
This book seems to be an exciting gateway for so many more stories! It's wonderful to see Constance come into her own, and to have Margo not become a shrinking violet! Delving more into Pendergast's person just makes this series more enjoyable with every book. I look forward to where the road takes us, and I hope Rene Auberjonois continues to narrate. He seems to convey each character perfectly. So much to look forward to!

A nice surprise!
Revisado: 03-10-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Cuckoo's Calling to be better than the print version?
Didn't read the print version, but was able to follow the audio edition very easily, but that may be because I'm familiar with British idioms.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Cuckoo's Calling?
The realization on Robin's part that she enjoyed working with Strike--especially at the dress shop.
What about Robert Glenister’s performance did you like?
His ability to change voice with different characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
No idea.
Any additional comments?
It was very exciting in looking for another mystery to read while I waited for my favorite (Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's Pendergast Series) to come out, to find a first "chapter" of a detective, and then to find out that it was by J.K. Rowling! Even topped my expectations after reading the Harry Potter series! Really looking forward to Book 2!
