Historia
On a wet afternoon in September 1938, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain stepped off an airplane and announced that his visit to Hitler had averted the greatest crisis in recent memory. It was, he later assured the crowd in Downing Street, "peace for our time." Less than a year later, Germany invaded Poland and the Second World War began. Appeasement is a groundbreaking history of the disastrous years of indecision, failed diplomacy, and parliamentary infighting that enabled Hitler's domination of Europe.

Good look at the time. Excellent delivery- except -first time I have ever needed to speed up the narration. One notch up made all the difference. Otherwise the narrator was painfully slow.

The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low.

surprised

Story better than I expected.
Narration was fine EXCEPT for simply reading song lyrics. Saying la la la la instead of singing them was jarring.

illustration of a bad narrator ruining a book
Revisado: 09-08-23
Takes some doing to make Mitch Rapp sound like a beta male and Vince Flynn sound like a pedantic second rate writer.
But this narrator manages both.
So irritating.
Inflection, pacing, voice matters. This guy? - ugh

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Good listen
Revisado: 06-16-23
I read this book several years ago in real book form. It takes place in my home stomping grounds.
Bronson has a good reading voice - for the most part an excellent narrator.
I just wish when people read these things they would bother to learn to pronounce the place names they don't know.
he didn't.
That's my only complaint -

Historia
While Congress debates the merits of continued funding for the stealth bomber, sinister forces have their own goals in mind. During a training exercise, a B-2 bomber disappears. When search efforts produce no evidence that the bomber crashed, the US Air Force has no choice but to acknowledge that one of its most secret and high-tech aircraft has been hijacked.
Recovery of the B-2 and its crew becomes the president's highest priority, and the Kremlin claims no knowledge of the missing aircraft. Finally, intelligence leads to what at first seems a very unlikely suspect: Cuba.

good grief the narration
Revisado: 04-24-23
Story is reasonably good - but the narration? yikes. The general narration is fine - but any and all conversation is just awful. Exaggerated accents - slow slow speech as though the men can't get words out. the Russian? ack. The US military men - jeeze, all slow speaking southerners? The president? trying to sound like JFK? Almost unlistenable.
He'd have done much better to do it all at a normal pace and dial the accents back about 75%.
Can't imagine who thought this was good narration.

When a scruffy, tattooed kid shows up asking for help in solving a cold case - that of his mother's murder - Cal wants to say no. Times are tough, and he's no private eye, anyway. But the kid, who calls himself Picasso, has ridden a bicycle in the rain all the way from Portland, and something about his determination touches Cal.

basic research

free book - worth that price.
I wish authors who spout anything firearms related would either have someone with an ounce of knowledge edit for some degree of accuracy or at least do a little basic Google research themselves.
Glock does not build revolvers - a Glock 19 is not a revolver - revolvers do not have "clips" - nor do Glocks. They have magazines.

Jim Thorpe rose to world fame as a mythic talent who excelled at every sport. Most famously, he won gold medals in the decathlon and pentathlon at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. A member of the Sac and Fox Nation, he was an All-American football player at the Carlisle Indian School, the star of the first class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and played major league baseball for John McGraw’s New York Giants. Even in a golden age of sports celebrities, he was one of a kind.
