Historia
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

Aching beautiful
Revisado: 02-05-20
This book is miles apart from anythiing else I typically read or listen to -- but I loved it! The writing is spare, elegant, and passionate. The performance by Perdita Weeks fits the material perfectly. Particularly memorable to me were the portrails of Circe as a mother. This is story, mythology, but it is a portrayal of parenthood that is passionate, true, and complex. As a father, it brought tears of recognition to my eyes. Relationships between other characters were described with the same honesty. These are gods but we may strive to be so human.

Historia
Two brothers meet at the remote fence line separating their cattle ranches in the lonely outback. In an isolated belt of Western Australia, they are each other’s nearest neighbor, their homes a four-hour drive apart. The third brother lies dead at their feet. Something caused Cam, the middle child who had been in charge of the family homestead, to die alone in the middle of nowhere. So the eldest brother returns with his younger sibling to the family property and those left behind. But the fragile balance of the ranch is threatened.

Historia
John Wesley Powell’s first descent of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in 1869 counts among the most dramatic chapters in American exploration history. When the Canyon spit out the surviving members of the expedition - starving, battered, and nearly naked - they had accomplished what others thought impossible and finished the exploration of continental America that Lewis and Clark had begun almost 70 years before.

Fine addition to the Powell story
Revisado: 08-02-18
A worthy addition to the literature on John Wesley Powell's impact on the settlement of the American West. New material on Powell's early years, and in-depth assesment of his contributions as a Federal bureaucrat and visionary nicely suppliment the older works by Stegner and others. Powell's exploration of the Grand Canyon is covered but the book, fortunately, emphasizes his contributions after 1872.

Historia
Randy Wayne White is acclaimed as "wildly inventive" (The San Diego Union-Tribune), "a wonderful writer" (Paul Theroux), "a fine storyteller" (Peter Matthiessen), and "the rightful heir to John D. MacDonald" (The Tampa Tribune-Times). Now he delivers a wicked thriller that sends government agent-turned-marine biologist Doc Ford into dangerous new waters, as a Florida fishing dispute escalates into a deadly war that reaches across the ocean...

Routine fantasy, elevated by the performer
Revisado: 08-02-18
The story is a routine fantasy of male prowess -- sexual, physical, intellectual -- and self sufficiency. Strong performance by George Guidall makes it listenable.

Anthropology? Ecology? Evolutionary Biology?
Revisado: 11-27-17
An inventive "what-if" story of alien cultures that takes up the question: "what if species other than humans evolved?" Earned an instant place on my mental bookshelf, right next to Mary D. Russell's "The Sparrow", and "Children of God".
Well performed as well. An excellent listen I'm happy to recommend.
