Historia
All Rob wanted was a normal life. She almost got it, too: a husband, two kids, a nice house in the suburbs. But Rob fears for her oldest daughter, Callie, who collects tiny bones and whispers to imaginary friends. Rob sees a darkness in Callie, one that reminds her too much of the family she left behind. She decides to take Callie back to her childhood home, to Sundial, deep in the Mojave Desert. And there she will have to make a terrible choice.

Not nearly as good as Needless Street.
Revisado: 06-26-22
I could talk about Last House on Needless Street for days. That book blew me away. I loved it so much I got this book by Catriona Ward. This book, however, was not Needless Street.
This book was slow and uninteresting. Not nearly as deep or intriguing. The only reason I finished it was because I thought there might be some sort of twist which brought you in at the end (Needless Street had revelation after revelation which kept the story getting better and better). The reveals at the end of this one weren't worth the wait.
The narrator was pretty good.

Historia
In a boarded-up house on a dead-end street at the edge of the wild Washington woods lives a family of three. A teenage girl who isn’t allowed outside, not after last time. A man who drinks alone in front of his TV, trying to ignore the gaps in his memory. And a house cat who loves napping and reading the Bible. An unspeakable secret binds them together, but when a new neighbor moves in next door, what is buried out among the birch trees may come back to haunt them all.

My first 5 star review.
Revisado: 06-12-22
This story was amazing. I DON'T use this term lightly.
This story started out weird, a cat reading a Bible, a few details you don't understand at first, but everything comes together. layers upon layer, upon layers unfold into a story that took took my breath away.
The author did such a great job creating blindspots for the reader and filling those in as the story went on. Just when I thought I understood the story and was beginning to wonder how it could keep going for another few hours - switch, another detail is revealed and I was taken away again.
As for the narrator... at one point I had to check to see if it was being narrated by multiple people. It wasn't. it was one guy. when he would narrate the cat and switch to Ted it sounded like two completely different people.
I normally find faults with every book and every narrator. this one I did not.

Five stars
Revisado: 05-31-22
I gave this audiobook four stars for another version of me who doesn't read 5 star reviews because I don't believe them. For the other me out there, this book is 5 star worthy.
This book kept me mentally engaged for the entire time.
Blake Crouch can be summed up into one plot device from the other two books I've experienced of his: man loses family by some sci-fi event and must get them back. I thought I could predict the story because of this. It was not so. It also turns out that I'm a sucker for this plot. I serve in the military in the logistics field and am taken away from my family on a regular basis. so this type of story always hits home.
I will be getting more Blake Crouch in the future. This guy is good.
So for any other versions of me out there on the fence about this book, get it.

Kept my interest.
Revisado: 05-24-22
I enjoyed the three different POVs in the story. After the first three chapters the story really picked up. I don't think I will pick up the second book in the series, but this one was good on its own in my opinion. Had a good portrayal of a non-binary character. I think that's the main reason I kept listening.

The Divide. It’s the edge of the universe. Now, it’s collapsing - and taking everyone and everything with it. The only ones who can stop it are the Sentinels - the recruits, exiles, and court-martialed dregs of the military. At the Divide, Adequin Rake commands the Argus. She has no resources, no comms - nothing, except for the soldiers that no one wanted.

Not enough.
Revisado: 05-24-22
I would like to start by saying that the male narrator, Andrew Eiden, sounds like Garfield doing a Jack Nicholson impression. It was very difficult to get past that at first.
Second, this was okay. Some interesting parts, most of it kind of boring. Based on how it started I was expecting more humor, shock value, etc. I was expecting a gritty Guardians of the Galaxy, but it took itself too seriously for that. The main character started out snarky and funny, but too quickly he changed into a serious role. Huge mistake. Should have kept him that way.

Historia
A strange plague called the "Gets" is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget - small things at first, like where they left their keys... then the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarily - and there is no cure. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Marianas Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as "ambrosia" has been discovered - a universal healer, from initial reports.

Too much hallucinating
Revisado: 05-12-22
The tension that could have existed and the emotions that could have been exhibited were potentially there. There were too many dream and hallucination sequences which made me feel like anything real was actually happening. Is that person really dying or will they be fine in the next chapter? oh, that person died but now they're fine... but wait, the instance where they were perceived as fine was a hallucination. completely killed the tension.

After the old gods warred and drove themselves to extinction, the cataclysm of their fall shattered the land of Vigrio. Now, power-hungry jarls carve out petty kingdoms, and monsters stalk the shadow-haunted woods and mountains. A world where the bones of the dead gods still hold great power, promising fame, and fortune for those brave - or desperate - enough to seek them out. As whispers of war echo over the plains and across the fjords, fate follows the footsteps of three people. All three will shape the fate of the world, as it once more teeters on the edge of chaos.

so so
Revisado: 04-12-22
this title does add anything to the fantasy genre. I was bored most of the time. if you like people seeking revenge and warbands traveling you might like it. I liked his Time of Dread book better than this one, but that one wasn't anything to write home about either.

Historia
At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

really good, just a few nitpicks
Revisado: 01-23-22
the narrators were alright. the male didn't have much range as far as voices go and sometimes it was hard to tell who was talking.
the female was better at voices, but sometimes it sounded like she was talking while inhaling.
overall I would still recommend this book just to explore the themes and amount of thought provoking it causes. I was heartbroken at times.
non-specific spoiler below
the story, theme and pacing were great. it wasn't until the end when I realized that the author's way of fixing the timeline wouldn't work. The character who fixed it couldn't be the one to fix that specific timeline because he was already part of a messed up one.
other than that I really enjoyed it. it felt really deep. I questioned my own reality, my memories, and my perception at times because of the themes this book explores. if you can get over a fixed/not fixed timeline at the end then I recommend.
