Historia
After their dubiously successful quest to slay the White Lady and recover the Fireborne Blade, Sir Maddileh and Saralene set about changing their world for the better. But the cursed and newly-promoted High Mage Saralene must visit the afterlife to ask a favor of the Bloodless Princes who run the underworld. But Saralene and Sir Maddileh will soon discover that the old tales only hold so much truth in them, though perhaps there’s enough to make a start on their new journey.

Even better than the first
Revisado: 11-05-24
The first book was good. Good enough to get me to buy the second. The second book made me a fan. Rich storytelling, and it feels like we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg. Would recommend and buy the author’s next book.

Historia
Maddileh is a knight. There aren’t many women in her line of work, and it often feels like the sneering and contempt from her peers is harder to stomach than the actual dragon slaying. But she’s a knight, and made of sterner stuff. A minor infraction forces her to redeem her honor in the most dramatic way possible, she must retrieve the fabled Fireborne Blade from its keeper, legendary dragon the White Lady, or die trying. If history tells us anything, it's that “die trying” is where to wager your coin.

Excited for the sequel
Revisado: 07-20-24
This is a rare example of where another hour of world building, sprinkled in throughout, would have been welcomed. Usually, info dumping is taxing, but I am extremely interested in learning more of the lore surrounding this world and its history. That is a testimony to the creativity the author has displayed.
Particularly, in regard to examples of dragons and magics that were name dropped, but not delved into.
Interesting plot, good pacing and engaging characters. I have already bought the pre-order of the sequel, now we wait to see if my questions are answered.

A fair stand alone for your library
Revisado: 03-10-24
It took me a while to finish this book but I’m glad I did. There was a nice fantasy plot twist that made it a lot more interesting. The ending was also fairly satisfying, even if it was not the happiest ever after.
Sometimes, I had to re-listen to certain sections because the scene, or settings, changed suddenly, either due to progression, a flash back, or magical circumstances, with little notice.

Highly recommend this book. The writing was very good, that is to say it weaved a complex story that spanned across light years and decades. I wish certain parts had the same depth of detail as others, but I followed along and enjoyed the ride.

I highly recommend this book. It is a great way to end the series and the very least scene is cherry on top. High praise for the world building, narration and conclusion of this saga.

Fascinating History
Revisado: 02-11-24
I learned a lot from this book. The author put a tremendous amount of effort into the research, but no one is perfect, and accounts are given from one or two perspectives, and occasionally more information is provided to fill out a “30,000ft view of these complex events that shaped our world’s history.”
The narration was smooth, but lacked inflection at some points where the story should have been very gripping, given the subject. Not bad, but very NPR in tone.
Highly recommend this book.

Almost won me over
Revisado: 12-27-23
**Spoiler free review**
Not a bad book, but it was so close to being great. Didn’t spend enough time on the aspects I thought were the best parts. Also, right when it felt like it was really getting good… it ends.
For a stand alone, it certainly leaves a lot of loose ends and unexplored territory that had potential.
A few tweaks (and another chapter or three of resolution) could have made this a 4 or 5 star review.
Also, the narrator tends to make a meal of lines in the slower parts, thus delaying the return to the best bits.
I’m still going to buy the physical copy for my bookshelf, so I would recommend this book to certain friends, with the advice to wait for the big thing to happen. That’s where it starts to really get interesting.

It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

This follow up does the first book justice as the second installment delivers. It capitalizes on the successes of the first book while adding new characters, and adding new layers to our protagonist. Highly recommend.

Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

A wonderful novella
Revisado: 12-07-23
On a personal note, this book was exactly what I needed on a bad day. The narration was amazing, combined with the immersive story, I was transported to this far off planet.
As a shorter story, you don’t get a lot of the world building and background info you might get with other sci fi books, but the main character is personable enough for you to suspend your disbelief.
Highly recommend this book, and I’m about to start the second.

Feels good to be back
Revisado: 11-15-23
This book gives me a lot of hope for the 3rd book. The best compliments I can give are: I wish it was longer, I was enjoying it too much when it abruptly ended. Secondly, I made many notes and clips in this for it being so short.
I highly recommend this to any fan of the series. Narration was amazing.
