inappropriate bias.
Revisado: 03-18-22
really disappointed by the amount of personal bias applied by the religious nature of the speaker. To assume that ethics belong in the hands of the pious is an overplayed American trope, and especially egregious when in relation to Aristotle. I really hoped Mr Father would remain ambiguous but his personal beliefs were very distracting.

Historia
Precariously positioned between China and India, Burma's population has suffered dictatorship, natural disaster, and the dark legacies of colonial rule. But when decades of military dictatorship finally ended and internationally beloved Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi emerged from long years of house arrest, hopes soared. As historian, former diplomat, and presidential advisor, Thant Myint-U saw the cracks forming. In this insider's diagnosis of a country at a breaking point, he dissects all of the elements that came together to challenge the incipient democracy.

enlightening, detailed and unbiased
Revisado: 05-21-21
an important piece of literature, Thant Myint-U addresses humanitarian issues from a wide angle perspective, a dilemma that spreads light on philosophical questions applicable to all of humanity, worth your time to listen to. he does not cover the colonial atrocities as detailed as he could but that's ok because the main focus is on the question of what to do NOW, not on ruminating.

Historia
In this stunning audiobook, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers" - the best and the brightest, the most famous, and the most successful. He asks the question: What makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: That is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing.

Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.

Historia
Half the world's population speaks a language that has evolved from a single prehistoric mother tongue. First spoken in Stone Age times on the steppes of central Eurasia 6,500 years ago, this mother tongue spread from the shores of the Black Sea across almost all of Europe and much of Asia. It is the genetic basis of everything we speak and write today - the DNA of language.

I love etymology, this course is special though, searching for our proto-language closes the gap between tongues and makes learning German, Latin, Spanish, French or even Gaelic much more fun. Didn't help me with my Chinese though 😂

Historia
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.
