Great concept, soppy heroine, missed the mark

Loved the story. However, Leading lady wasn’t a leader.

I loved the story, but found myself wanting to lecture Lydia and smack Katherine.
I would have liked to see John confront Noah’s ghost and put his mother’s ghost to rest as well. I do love happy endings.
The performance was top notch. Would love to hear more books narrated by her.
A fan of Hester’s work I will read another. This just isn’t my favorite.

By the fall of 1939, Renia and her younger sister, Elizabeth (née Ariana), were staying with their grandparents in Przemysl just as the German and Soviet armies invaded Poland. Cut off from their mother, who was in Warsaw, Renia and her family were plunged into war.
