Historia
Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one. Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare, but she is paying a price for the illusion of perfection. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for a nanny. She comes with a mysterious past and a sadness beyond her years. These three women are at different crossroads, but they will all wind up in the same shocking place.

Gripping
Revisado: 02-18-24
The author weaves multiple storylines together seamlessly and the climax is breathtaking. It captures both the complexity and the horror of domestic violence and its impact on families.

Historia
From the creator of the beloved and universally acclaimed television series BoJack Horseman, a fabulously off-beat collection of short stories about love - the best and worst thing in the universe. Equally at home with the surreal and the painfully relatable (and both at once), Bob-Waksberg delivers a killer combination of humor, romance, whimsy, cultural commentary, and crushing emotional vulnerability.

If you don’t read any other story in this book, read Rufus. But trust me, read them all.

Historia
In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite writers of all time and The Sandman ranks in the top 5. The cast is superb. The performances are vivid.

The parallels between the events in this book and real life is frightening, but the story is superb.

Beautiful and Poignant
Revisado: 12-13-22
This book made me ugly cry more times than I could count. Anyone who has loved someone with a mental illness will immediately recognize the fear, the grief, and the uncertainty described by the author. Raúl Esparza is so good here, it’s impossible to tell if the emotion he conveys is real or just part of the performance. Regardless, the story is one I’ll be thinking on for a while.
