Historia
His name wasn’t Chester Nez. That was the English name he was assigned in kindergarten. And in boarding school at Fort Defiance, he was punished for speaking his native language, as the teachers sought to rid him of his culture and traditions. But discrimination didn’t stop Chester from answering the call to defend his country after Pearl Harbor, for the Navajo have always been warriors, and his upbringing on a New Mexico reservation gave him the strength to excel as a marine. This is the first and only memoir by one of the original Navajo code talkers of WWII.

Riveting--A Must Read in History & Culture Classes
Revisado: 10-25-21
"Code Talker" is a fantastic read. History and culture was extremely well presented and well written (and well narrated).
Makes me wonder why my culture-awareness, English-class professor didn't choose this book verses the one that berates Navajo men. Oh. The Prof's wife was of the same decent as the major enemy discussed in this book . . . hmmm.
A great read in or out of school! I just hope all history and culture-awareness classes include "Code Talker" as a must read!

In this recorded account of near-death experiences, we learn about the miracles of the millennium, the return of the Ten Tribes, the building of the New Jerusalem and temple, and many other astonishing events long prophesied in scripture but never before described in such vivid detail. Visions of Glory is a mesmerizing and fascinating read that you will not be able to put down.

Food for Thought but a Little Wacco (4 paragraphs)
Revisado: 10-24-21
“Visions of Glory by John Pontius” (a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) is food for thought but a little heavy duty. Although I generally had a good feeling when reading this book (definitely better than a violent novel), I’m giving it a four instead of a five because of the book’s constant claiming of the word visions (in fact the word vision from the title should have been defined, per writing norms) when some of the happenings were in real time and some were in dreams/his subconscious, and some were, actually, metaphors (not noted until the appendix and not noted as to which happenings ‘were or were not’ metaphors).
As to the Savior’s hair color the protagonist saw, I know someone else--to whom I would not doubt--saw the Savior with blonde, fluffy hair. So whose vision was accurate? Or were they both dreams? Moreover, why even mention the Savior’s hair color in a book, of all things, when prophets have told us the most important thing to remember and to focus with Jesus Christ is His almighty atonement and His many good works and miracles.
Regarding the future events the protagonist saw [or dreamed], I hope they can be approached the same way the Bible’s King Hezekiah handled his death prophecy from Isiah, wherein King Hezekiah was granted 15 more years to live because of his righteous pleadings. Fortunately, we have lots of leaders and citizens praying for our Nation; so, hopefully, those prayers will be advantageous to future situations, overriding many of the negative visions/dreams mentioned.
I appreciate the author including a few more revelations/visions from other people. But I believe these types of personal visions should not be proclaimed to the world in a book unless done so through a prophet, seer, and revelator. I think Church leaders want us to focus on improving ourselves and being kind to our loved ones while calmly preparing for the second coming of our Savior Jesus Christ. And while Church leaders might believe much of the information presented in this book, they might prefer material that can't cause readers to get historical over such futuristic specifics, which might be partially the reason "Visions of Glory" wasn’t and isn’t (to my knowledge) sold at book stores designated for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latte-Day Saints (unless the book was sold out at those stores).

Historia
On April 7, 1844, Joseph Smith gave a sermon in Nauvoo, Illinois, to nearly 20,000 church members. A few weeks earlier, a church member and close friend of Joseph named King Follett was killed in an accident. This well-known event in Nauvoo led Joseph Smith to comment specifically on Follett’s death and to address what Joseph called “[T]he subject of the dead”.

Too Much Using the Names of Diety
Revisado: 10-10-21
I revere Joseph Smith as the Prophet, but this book had an abrupt use of the Lord's and the Father's name more than any of my non-religious books. The lingo might have been the thing back then but was too distracting for me today -- and is all that I can remember of it!

Historia
James Comey might best be known as the FBI director that Donald Trump fired in 2017, but he’s had a long, varied career in the law and justice system. He knows better than most just what a force for good the US justice system can be - and how far afield it has strayed during the Trump presidency. In his much-anticipated follow-up to A Higher Loyalty, Comey uses anecdotes and lessons from his career to show how the federal justice system works.

Revisado: 01-16-21
Although this Mormon lady Skipped the "Weird Sex" chapter, I found Comey's mob, etc. experiences extremely interesting and the book well written, underscoring the author's values. I would have changed the title's wording after the colan to Intriguing Criminal Experiences and More, because it was riveting to me.

Lost Books of The Bible: The New Testament Apocrypha

Historia
The New Testament Apocrypha refers to texts written by early Christians that were not included in the Bible used by the main branches of Christianity today. These texts vary in subject matter, with some being accounts of Jesus, others being about the nature of God, and still others being accounts and teachings of Jesus' apostles. What makes them fascinating is not just the history behind why they are considered non-canonical, but what they tell us about the early Church and early Christianity. Moreover, they offer insight into what sources were used to write them, and whether they shared the same sources as the texts that comprise the Bible today. Given their historical and religious importance, there is still a fierce debate over the authenticity of many of these texts.

The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience.

Historia
Out in the Pacific Ocean, there is a war taking place. It is a "warm war", a shoving match between the United States, since World War II the uncontested ruler of the seas, and China, which now possesses the world's largest navy. The Chinese regard the Pacific, and especially the South China Sea, as their ocean, and they're ready to defend it. Each day the heat between the two countries increases as the Chinese try to claim the South China Sea for their own, and the United States insists on asserting freedom of navigation.
