So good
Revisado: 08-01-24
I listen to a lot of audiobooks - most of which are mysteries/police procedural. This was the best book I have listened to in sometime.

Amazing production
Revisado: 07-27-24
This was extremely well done. I listened to audiobooks with sleep mask headphones in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep, so I felt totally immersed. And, particularly in the beginning episodes, I was genuinely a little scared. Good story and amazing production.

Historia
Veteran reporter Jack McEvoy has taken down killers before, but when a woman he had a one-night stand with is murdered in a particularly brutal way, McEvoy realizes he might be facing a criminal mind unlike any he's ever encountered. Jack investigates - against the warnings of the police and his own editor - and makes a shocking discovery that connects the crime to other mysterious deaths across the country. Undetected by law enforcement, a vicious killer has been hunting women, using genetic data to select and stalk his targets.

Not my favorite so far…
Revisado: 02-24-24
I really like the premise behind the story - I find it fascinating and timely. Although I have not finished the book, it seems that my least favorite trope will be used: a person framed and wrongly accused. Connelly uses this trope too often, particularly in his non-Bosch stories, but, for the most part, he does it well or at least gets away with it. Maybe he will get away with in this book, but I am already irritated at the anticipation of it happening in this story. I also dislike when authors give us the perspective of the “bad guys,” like he did in the Poet and this book. Again, Connelly does it better than most, but I find it a lazy literary trope.

Historia
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the L.A.P.D. are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are superheating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

A favorite Harry Bosch novel
Revisado: 02-15-24
I have read Michael Connelly books throughout the years - all out-of-order, but I really have been sucked in recently. This is one of my favorites. I was in high school/college during Rodney King/OJ Simpson/and the advent of the internet- these were big events during my formative, young adult years. It is fascinating to sort of “re-live” these events through these early Bosch books.

Gripping story but too much gratuitous violence
Revisado: 12-04-23
I found the story gripping, but I had to skip through huge portions of the book towards the end because the overwhelming amount of unnecessary torture and sexualized violence.

One of my favorites!
Revisado: 10-09-23
I found this book engaging. My only issue - mostly of my own making because I listen to the book when falling asleep - was that I found it difficult to recall all of the characters and remember their role in the story. In fact, I bought the Kindle version, so I could use that x-ray function. Otherwise, this was one of my favorites in this series.

Historia
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

Not for Me
Revisado: 09-25-23
I would have preferred if the majority of the book was devoted to the investigation. I enjoy the mystery - not some author’s idea of how he thinks a serial killer thinks. Not only does it rob the book of the mystery, but then we are subjected to half a book about some pathetic guy raping and killing women. No thanks. I also did not find the main character either clever or interesting.

No. 7 Ocean Drive is a gorgeous, multi-million-dollar beachfront estate in the Hamptons, where money and privilege know no bounds. But its beautiful gothic exterior hides a horrific past: It was the scene of a series of depraved killings that have never been solved. Neglected, empty, and rumored to be cursed, it's known as the Murder House, and locals keep their distance.

Often entertaining; always mediocre
Revisado: 09-12-23
This book had its moments. I liked the chapters focused on the investigation. Other chapters I simply fast forwarded through. I didn’t find the characters particularly well developed or believable. I knew the “twist” was coming almost immediately after the character was first introduced.
The narration was mostly good if a little too melodramatic at times. But that was largely owed to the writing.

Good series, but tedious at the end with this book
Revisado: 08-19-23
I have enjoyed this series, but I have found the last two books to be a bit tedious and am struggling to finish this one. I do think it’s well written, and I would like to know how it ends, so I will persevere.

Good story, happy with the narrator
Revisado: 05-16-23
I struggled with the new narrator the last book after being used to the previous narrator, but I had no issues with the new narrator this book. I found the story mostly interesting, but I am growing a little tired of the violence against women - particularly Maeve.
