Historia
War has come to Discworld. The homes and businesses throughout the duchy of Borogravia limp along, doing the best they can without their men, sent to fight their age-old enemy. Polly has taken over the lion’s share of responsibility for the running of her family’s humble inn, The Duchess. Her beloved brother Paul marched off to war almost a year ago, but it has been more than two months since his last letter home, and the news from the front is bad: the fighting has reached the border, supplies are dwindling, and the brave Borogravians are losing precious ground.

My favorite audiobook adaptation of this book
Revisado: 09-16-23
In 2020, I borrowed Stephen Briggs' excellent audiobook adaptation of this book from the library, which I enjoyed very much. As good as it was, I enjoy this version even more. This book overflows with lines of dialogue from amazing female characters, and Katherine Parkinson gives a unique voice to each of them. She does a good job voicing the male characters as well. She beautifully portrays the suave vampire Maladict, the protective Sergeant Jack Jackrum, the inexperienced Lieutenant Blouse and our hero, the pragmatic Polly Perks.
I won't spoil the many surprises in this book, but I highly recommend it for fans of thoughtful, side-splitting comedy.

Caroline is desperate to be promoted to the sales team - but she's overweight and over 40, and in a world where attractiveness is prioritised ahead of intelligence, her prospects are slim. Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

Superb content: narration quality varies.
Revisado: 02-27-22
I wish I had read this book in high school or college. It fills in all the missing pieces of my American history education, and it gives much-needed context to American life today. In addition to this audiobook, I also bought the Kindle edition to have on hand as a searchable reference.
The narrator quality varies. Most of the writers read their own material for this audiobook. Their narration is good enough, and the content alone holds one's attention. However, few of these scholars approach the level of the "top-tier" narrators of other audiobooks (ex: Robin Miles, Barack Obama, Ray Porter, Richard Armitage). I think the poetry segments had the best narration quality.
Overall, great book, and I'm glad I listened to it.

Historia
Knowing where to start when learning a new skill can be a challenge, especially when the topic seems so vast. There can be so much information available that you can't even decide where to start. Or worse, you start down the path of learning and quickly discover too many concepts, commands, and nuances that aren't explained. What you learn in Linux for Beginners applies to any Linux environment including Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, RedHat, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Slackware, and more.

Great audiobook if you immerse yourself in Linux
Revisado: 08-14-21
I used Solaris/IRIX in the 90's and I use Git Bash today. The parts of this book that "clicked" covered areas I've used before -- vi, ls, chmod. The parts outside of my experience motivated me to purchase the Kindle version of this book as a companion reference.
I appreciate the brevity of the book. Even as an audiobook, it still makes clear what one can do with Linux. I just need to cement that understanding with deliberate practice.

Beautiful box of audio chocolates
Revisado: 02-16-21
I read and treasured the SANDMAN comics in the 90's. I enjoyed listening to this audio adaptation. Each episode adapts one comic book from the original run, and does so brilliantly. I hope Audible adapts the rest of the series.
Recommended for fans of the original comics and for fans of Neil Gaiman's magic in general.
