loved it as a kid and loved it now
Revisado: 07-24-22
I absolutely loved the book as a kid and was disappointed that it has never been put into audiology format. imagine my delight when I found it just before a long trip to Colorado, my wife loves it just as much as I do now.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

it was hilarious
Revisado: 01-20-21
it was hilarious to break the 4th wall and hear what the characters thought about the craziness that is episodic sci-fi television. the only detriment I found was the lack of variety when it comes to the words used to denote speaking, there are many words to describe speech but the author got stuck on the word "said" and rarely differentiated. it honestly sounded like a script....but maybe that was on purpose.

Historia
In a not-too-distant future that is not quite ours, there has been a major scientific breakthrough. It is a way to open windows into the past, permitting historical researchers to view, but not participate, in the events of the past.
In one of the most powerful and thought-provoking novels of his remarkable career, Orson Scott Card interweaves a compelling portrait of Christopher Columbus with the story of a future scientist who believes she can alter human history from a tragedy of bloodshed and brutality to a world filled with hope and healing.

every bit as good as I remember
Revisado: 01-20-21
I read this book in high school and loved it, now I loved it even more being able to hear it and not have to struggle with some of the pronunciations in my head. I would definitely reccommend it to any sci-fi or alternate history fan.

great listening for a long car ride/commute
Revisado: 06-30-20
I loved it. as a lifelong startrek starwars and firefly fan I absolutely adored this series. there were times when it lagged or when the characters did something that I thought wasn't too smart but it always picked right back up soon after or the character realized their mistake. that's the trade off of being the consumer rather than the author, you don't control the characters and the author does. alot of fans have forgotten that these days. anyways this series was great other than a few portions which were crucial to plot but not as exciting, and it definitely was the spiritual successor to classic futuristic sci-fi that it's billed as. i saw shades of all the greats in there well developed and well executed with a flair from the author that really makes it unique. i would reccommend for anyone who needs a large audio book for a long car trip or series of car trips. it's kept me entertained on my hour long commute for almost 2 months and I look forward to the next couple of series to keep me entertained as well.
