Even though the first episodes are a little rough, the epic of Vox Machina and Critical Role starts here and the early days of the show are pure raw D&D. In the first campaign especially, the cast can be fully authentic and not be cognizant of the audience, or feel the pressure of past successes. There was no need for filtering for a mass audience, it's the most genuine of all CR content.

Outdated and Shaky advice

The author makes the following disastrous claims:
1. "There has never been a national housing bubble, Real estate always goes up"
2. He recommends commission based financial advisors rather than fee only advisors
3. He recommended Wells Fargo and BoA, both of which defraud customers
4. No mention is made of no load index funds
5. Downplays the fact that it takes decades to see real growth
6. No acknowledgement that paying off a low interest mortgage is not necessarily better than putting that money in higher yielding investments, plus factoring in maintenance and support costs of home ownership.

I see little credibility here and a lot of cheerful salesmanship. Maybe it's just that this book is old and out of date, but following this advice, while better than nothing, WILL have you leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars in the hands of "advisors" who rob you blind with percentages of your returns.

Look, whenever someone starts going all woo woo crystal clutchy about quantum theory and obviously knows only what YouTube can tell them, I get suspicious that just maybe the whole thing is bullshit.

Can we not have pseudo science crammed into a metaphysic of self actualization and actually get to the actual philosophy?

Chapter 1: Why magical thinking is supported by a mystical interpretation of quantum field theory merged with sympathetic magic.

In one "study" quoted here, there is a retroactive miracle backwards in time where data pre arranged in advance is somehow "proof" of the power of prayer and positive emotional intent collapsing the temporal wave function. or some nonsense.

"Look, we put a list of people who survived serious illness ten years ago into a prayer list, prayed for them last week, and they got better Backwards In Time! "

Really? Just no.

I get that a certain word count sells books and pseudointellectualism and metaphysical quantum theory is the latest fad among the Sci fi Tarot crowd, but some of us seek out this stuff to better ourselves, not to have quantum smoke blown up our asses.

Chapter 2: Didn't bother. Lost me at "willing the future I want into existence via wishing really hard and caring a whole lot with my electromagnetic quantum brain"

Having completed the course, I can only conclude that the field of Metaphysics consists in simply arguing convolutedly about semantics.

Good fundamental info despite Boomer biases

The info and lessons here are solid, if you can see past the entitled Boomer biases and out of touch perspectives.

Lowndes's cultural awareness seems to have stopped progressing around 1990, but the fundamentals of her lessons are pretty much timeless.

If you focus on the point of her stories and subtext rather than the actual details, there is a lot to be learned.

Please don't let the outdated gender perspectives and entitled Boomer humblebragging stop you from learning the excellent social lessons she has to share.

Some of the time, the author admits that she has pulled manipulative mind games and never once acknowledges this as being problematic, such as the story about pretending to make mistakes so that a man she fancied could "rescue" her.

She also apparently didn't understand that her cruise ship acquaintances who were wooed by her suave waiter were very happy indeed to have a no-strings fling they could enjoy string free, and instead expressed disdain at the man for bringing them a good time.

It is naive to think that these women were broken hearted, thinking they were entering into some kind of long term love match. Frankly that waiter is probably better qualified to write about likeability than the author. Not everyone is looking for Twue Wuv, and Mr Right Now is usually a more fun time that Mr Right.

The author not only is blind to the fact that casual flings are not just fun for men, but also that not everyone is monogamous with marriage and family as top priority, even with regard to women, and that there is nothing lesser about it.
