Historia
In this intimate, haunting, literary memoir read by the author, an American icon tells her story for the first time, in her own gorgeous words - about a challenging and lonely childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful emotional legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

I'm sad.
Revisado: 06-14-19
I couldn't finish it. I had to return the book. I was so disappointed and was expecting so much more. This book is perfect proof as to why I never want to know who a celebrity is endorsing for president, what your thoughts on abortion are or who you've loved or not. An autobiography has a profound impact on we how see an author, for better or worse.
The book was definitely not what I was expecting. I think I was happier thinking of her in Steel Magnolias or Norma Rae and less as a woman who was obsessed with perfecting her "craft and her art".
She laments as a consistent theme her need for love and validation but at the same time, she claims to have kept all of her reviews for 40 years without ever reading any of them. Only now opening them so that we might share in the reveal.
I think the end came for me when she finally came to the chapter regarding Burt Reynolds. The very brief chapter. I watched several interviews with Mr Reynolds over the years in which he smiles and recalls her fondly. Let's just say her recollections were not as fond.
So I will try to return to world of ill informed bliss, and just go back to enjoying a true talent on the screen.

Historia
Molly Harper brings her signature "clever humor, snark, silliness, and endearing protagonists" ( Booklist) to the charming small town of Lake Sackett, Georgia with the new Southern Eclectic series. Carl and Marianne were high school sweethearts, loving the way only teenagers can - with no thought to logic or pride, just a bone-headed, optimistic frenzy of unicorns and hormones. That was all they needed. Or so Carl thought. Scared of being stuck in Lake Sackett, Georgia, like so many of her friends, Marianne panicked and bolted....

Flummoxed. ...C'mon, that's better than"Huh?"
Revisado: 03-06-19
A swing and a miss. About the time I could tolerate the characters the book was over. It lacks the adorable characteristics and charm of the folk of Half Moon hollow. I wanted to like them but I just didn't. it does have all the pith of And One More Thing, but none of the witty humor.

I put it down the times....
Revisado: 02-13-19
I started this book and put it down the times before I forced myself to choke it down. It has some of the sexy power exchange moments that excite me.... eventually... sort of... since they are only imagined. It has far too much American Psycho meets my inner goddess. I found the regurgitating of OMGs, Twitter feed and checkins too annoying to take anything else away from the writing.
if you can get past all of that... maybe shove it in your Prada bag .. then the creepy factor is there. Just sit back with your organic flavored seltzer water and enjoy.
loved the narrator, hated the book.

Historia
“Sam, could you do me a favor?” Thus begins a story that has now become part of America's true-crime hall of fame. It is a gory, grotesque tale befitting a Stephen King novel. It is also a David and Goliath saga - the story of a young lawyer fresh from the public defender's office whose first client in private practice turns out to be the worst serial killer in our nation's history. This is a gripping true crime narrative that reenacts the gruesome killings and the famous trial that shocked a nation.

Don't let the description fool you
Revisado: 09-13-15
This book does not re-enact any of the killings, in fact it lacks the gory details we tend to find in most books about the lives and deeds of serial killers. As someone who is fascinated by the psychology of these minds, I was truly looking forward to some insight from Gacy's 1st attorney. (One that Gacy himself would later refer to as inept).
This is typical attorney blah blah. There is very little insight into Gacy or the case, and a lot of self important blathering about a young attorney's first client. As the author himself writes in the postscript, there is nothing in this book that hasn't been said somewhere else so he is not violating privilege. There are in fact many more other published pieces that focus more on Gacy, the crimes, and his personality than this book. I kept waiting for it to get better, to hear something shocking, or revealing......and it never happened. I found myself running details of the crimes gathered from other sources over the narration of this book because it was so lacking in detail.
It comes off being a self important missive by a braggart about his first case, which oddly enough, is the same way he referred to Gacy. Funny don't you think?
The only redeeming quality to this book is the authors open mindedness regarding homosexuality. That it is not a choice, but a defect in the body / brain wiring. Ie Right person wrong body. Sadly, that is the only thing I found redeeming about this book.
If you want a more accurate insight into Gacy, read The Serial Killer Whisperer, though be warned, you can't unhear that book and it is truly frightening.

TMI...seriously
Revisado: 08-17-15
There is so much minutia in this book that it becomes almost impossible to follow. This is not a relaxing pleasant listen, the level of detail and 100+ years of family history (much irrelevant and repeated several times) make this more work than pleasure. It's almost as if I needed to be sitting and taking notes to keep up versus mowing my lawn and listening. The Deep southern inflections in speech were grating.

In all fairness I abhor zombie books and movies, so free or not I would not have downloaded this book were I aware of the theme.
But in truth, I try and make it a point to never read or listen to a book that's closing sentence is "and he wiped his ass".

The story was good, but frankly the evolution of the main character from spoiled brat to graceful took way too long. By the time we got there, I hated her. Jealous, self absorbed, spiteful.
Maxum and America were a welcomed "site" though.

Then he was free and it was time for his reward - full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That’s when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he’d violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.

There is nothing 50 shades about this book.
Revisado: 05-14-15
This was a great book, it was easily equal to The Girl in 6 E Possibly even Better. But the likeness to 50 shades is a farce. There is no D/s or M/s dynamic in this book. In fact frankly I am a little disturbed that it would be compared to 50 shades but this book references things that are clearly non-consensual. Which is exactly the opposite of 50Shades much less any well written BDSM literary piece.
Don't but this because you are looking for 50Shades, buy it because you read The Girl in 6E and want to follow a brilliant story.
For the record, Violence and sex do not equal Dominant, they equal predator.

They say when you take revenge against another you lose a part of your innocence. But I'm not innocent. I haven't been for a very long time. My innocence was stolen from me. Taken was the life I was supposed to have. The soul I was born with. The ruby heart embedded in a life full of hopes and dreams. Gone. Vanished. I never even had a choice. I mourn that life. Mourn the what-ifs. Until now. I'm ready to take back what was always meant to be mine. But every plan has a fatal flaw. Sometimes it's the heart.

Did that Just Happen?
Revisado: 05-14-15
I liked the story, a lot actually....right up until the end. It was a little Gone Girl, and a little Broken....but still original. But the ending? seriously? There are only one of two explanations for the ending because the lack of reconciliation of the drama is unacceptable.
A, the author could not figure out how to wrap up all the storylines and twists and turns. or B this is going to be another book cut into three pieces and three credits to get the entire story.
Either way I hate hate hate the ending. You had me at Hello, Lost me at Goodbye.
