Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Phenomenal story but horrible narration
Revisado: 07-06-19
I really enjoyed listening to this book. Admittedly, it had a slow start of pulling you in but I absolutely got transported to the 50’s in North Carolina.
What really distracted me from enjoying the story to its fullest was the narration. The terrible impersonations sounded and felt condescending, unauthentic and made me cringe every time Cassandra Campbell would speak in a tone, pace or dialect that was supposed to reflect the education level or background of anyone of color or poor. The voice she gave Kaya was obnoxious but not nearly as bad as her male impersonations.
This was definitely a book I should have sampled first prior purchasing had I, I would have opted for the print version because it was painful to listen to.
Nonetheless, this was a story that brought tears to my eyes, a historic reminder that is clearly reflected in today’s current events of just how damaging exclusion, prejudice, isolation, and toxic masculinity is and the impact it has.

You’re not having conversations until you’re having FIERCE CONVERSATIONS
Revisado: 07-20-18
This book is absolutely incredible. The way in which the author Susan weaves anecdotal stories of her life throughout this profound book to make even more profound points based on her team’s coaching approach is phenomenal, real, sobering.
If you take nothing else away from this book, take away the Mineral Rights approach to having perceived difficult conversations. Everyone should be asking themselves, in EVERY situation, “What are you pretending not to know?”.
