Historia
For four aging men in the terror-stricken town of Milburn, New York, an act inadvertently carried out in their youth has come back to haunt them. Now they are about to learn what happens to those who believe they can bury the past - and get away with murder. Peter Straub's classic best seller is a work of "superb horror" ( Washington Post Book World) that, like any good ghost story, stands the test of time - and conjures our darkest fears and nightmares.

A great classic for winter season.

Even though it’s horror, I find a lot of comfort listening to this story because I like the characters and their complex relationships, trying to save their small town.

Historia
Every October, Cara and her family become inexplicably and unavoidably accident prone. Some years it's bad, like the season when her father died, and some years it's just a lot of cuts and scrapes. This accident season - when Cara; her ex-stepbrother, Sam; and her best friend, Bea, are 17 - is going to be a bad one. But not for the reasons they think.

This won't be a book for everyone, because of the themes of ghosts, monsters, and secrets that hide in families. The characters are oddly authentic and relatable if you have similar experiences. The writing is whimsical and dark at the same time, and I greatly enjoyed the performance.

Personally spoke to me
Revisado: 01-27-17
I've read a lot of books on n tapping into creative work, and this one, while short, had the strongest voice identifying what held me back, and how to move forward.

Historia
When Jason Milwaukee's best friend Sunshine vanishes, Jason knows that something is terribly wrong, but solving her disappearance will require pushing through all the voices in his head and then getting the world to listen to him. His schizophrenia is stopping him from remembering the events leading up to her disappearance, and often he discounts his own memories, and his own impressions. But his deep knowledge that he would never hurt his friend, plus the faith of his parents and a few others in the town bring him to the point of solving the mystery.

Likeable Characters
Revisado: 12-05-16
I loved the alphabet kids. I'm raising two, one high functioning autistic and one with ADHD, who are still in elementary school. I would be proud to have my kids turn out like the protagonists in this story. This story was very relatable in that I'm also an officer in the Army as the mom, and it made me wonder how my kids view me. The performance was well done, and the characters were authentic, which could have been gimmicky or sterotyped considering their alphabet issues.

Historia
An electrifying true story of one young woman's nightmarish descent into the hell of schizophrenia and her courageous battle to rejoin the real world, such is the story of Lori Schiller. Once she had it all - a loving family, devoted friends, intelligence, and opportunity. Then at age 15 she began to suffer from symptoms of schizophrenia, hearing voices that began to take over her life. At 23, she committed herself to a private mental institution and spent the next 7 years waging a war against the voices that urged her to kill her family, her doctor, herself. This account of a journey into and out of madness is at once gripping, heartening, and ultimately triumphant.

Grainy Production
Revisado: 11-28-16
The performances were good, but it was a difficult listen because the production was grainy, maybe because it's an older one.

A unicorn, a haphazard wizard, and a spunky scullery woman journey to the dreaded kingdom of Haggaard, an evil ruler who, with the help of a bull-shaped demon, imprisons all the unicorns of the world. This is one of the great fantasy novels of the 20th century. Since its publication in 1968 it has never been out of print, with six million-plus copies sold around the world, and it has been translated into more than 20 languages.

Enjoyable Read
Revisado: 08-18-16
It ignited the memories of my childhood. The Last Unicorn was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and the reading was well done by the author himself. I enjoyed the musical interludes too.

Good Satire
Revisado: 07-21-16
I hope our future isn't as bleak, and I loved all the geeky references and 80s pop culture. I would love to play in the Oasis, but I could never live in it like the characters do. Appreciate the beauty of our world, the smell of fresh air, and nature.
