The audio, meh, not so much. Wrong narrator for it but didn’t detract from the story. I love these guys together and how Reid hold on to Atticus so hard.
Can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Love this book, seeing Toby open up to Beale (because who could resist!) was so sweet and the author is so good at writing emotion you can feel (and no one delivers it like Michael Dean). Have listened to it several times at this point. The worst thing about it is it makes me really not like Mason (you’ll see what I mean), from the first book. So I can’t really enjoy listening to that book anymore.

This started out pretty good, even with the vv saying “start up” like “starT. Up” like a hundred times. The resolution of this book went way wrong. It was ridiculous. Add to that the pov is sometimes omnipotent and this was just ugh.

Buuuut the author did that thing where someone does something unforgivable to one of the MCs then they magically, instantly, makeup and everything is all unicorns and rainbows.

I really liked the narrator though.

This is probably the first vv I’ve listened to all the way through. Sped up to 1.3x, I’ve definitely listened to worse narrators. The main problem seems to be when the dialog is supposed to be a whisper or growl or unhappy… here, it seemed to be delivered in the same tone.

Anyway, as far as the story, I pretty much really liked it but felt it wrapped everything up too fast when it seemed like a great first book in a series. I wanted more world-building.

After the first fifteen hours or so, I skipped ahead a LOT. It’s ridiculous. I actually liked the story and thought this was good up to the outbreak happening but after that, the delivery, all couched in misogyny and paternalism was just too much.
So much of the dialog revolved around “a lady doesn’t talk like that” type language. Directed at a fifteen year old girl, who’s already survived, killed zombies, and saved her companions “eat your vegetables or no more pop tarts”.
And Neil, poor Neil. He’s described as “small and weak”, even in one of the book blurbs, but he’s pretty much nothing but brave and decisive at all times. Like, why focus on his size and “weakness” at all? Just to basically make him a eunuch so he can be emasculated by the women? They treat him like crap and he just takes it.
Cassie.. why do they keep her around? She’s mean and toxic af. She puts everyone in danger OFTEN and sometimes on purpose. And WHY are these characters so interested in developing romantic insta-love one-sided relationships at the beginning of an apocalypse, on the run, zero safety in sight? And the drama it causes. Like a teen drama. Ffs.

Okay, two.
One. Especially at the beginning of the book Dustin comes off as an idiot. For instance, he meets Asher, feels an instant connection to him then later meets his brother, Archer, thinking it’s Asher (bc they’re twins and Dustin doesn’t know), and starts dating him even though something feels off with Archer. Once Dustin knows about the twin thing and that he’s dating the wrong twin (and therefore also knows that Archer knew and mis-led Dustin into believing he’s Asher), he…keeps dating him.
And two. I loved the narration from One Small Thing. The narrator in this book was different and gave Rue a completely ridiculous OTT voice.
Ok, so three, I’m pretty sure the MCs had two big reveal-the-occupation talks. Like the authors forgot we covered that ground already.
And maybe four, way too much brother drama and it was pretty unbelievable how Asher was trying to handle it.

Yeah, I’m glad Dustin got his HEA and his own story but I definitely listened to this at 1.5 speed.

Funny, heartfelt, hot, hockey, and the BEST narrating duo ever. This book delivers everything I look for and from an author that does mm romance extremely well.

What I liked about the book was the interesting world-building and alpha shifters with human omegas is always hawt. The bad thing for me about the book is the mc alpha is one of those… I just wanted to scream “would you stfu and let someone finish a sentence!” But no, he wouldn’t and ran off half-cocked too much.

Also-and this has just been driving me a little nuts STILL and I’ve already finished all of the books-these shifters live like 300 years. So why is it soooo important for the mc to sire a child at 25 years old? And if these alphas start making babies at 25, why aren’t their families huge?
And if everyone starts producing their alpha-heir at 25, why isn’t each pack’s current alpha like the great-great-great-great grandfather of the alpha-heirs? This just made zero sense to me and it’s never explained.

The narrator for this book may be the best thing about it but there’s just something about the ridiculousness of the writing that has made me listen to this more than once (I’m embarrassed to say).
This is kind of an enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers book where the MCs just can’t stay away from each other. It has alpha and omega dynamics and mpreg but no knotting.
