Historia
Wildlife and monsters have been stirred from their homes by intruders, both in the continent of Chandrar and the Empire of Tiqr, led by Nsiia, the Empress of Beasts, and in Liscor's dungeon, where a certain skeleton continues to help both friend and foes in the only way he knows how. In Liscor, the election will result in a new group of leaders for the city. But is that for the better or worse?

Hits like a Brick.
Revisado: 04-23-25
one of the things that drew me to the Wandering Inn originally was the emotional connection to the characters that you meet. Erin was an idiot that I loved to hate. Ryoka was the angry teen I saw in my past, so on and so forth. Each character grows. each character has their own battles with life, and every time I read about them coming through those battles it hits me in the heart like one of Bird's arrows. This book is not any different. Especially in the last several hours.
Add to this, the recent news that Andrea Parsneau will be ending her tenure as the Narrator for the series, and book 15 is her last... This is rough.

Narrator Switch.
Revisado: 04-08-25
I loved the first two Cross novels, both in writing and narration. And like with most series lately, I just assumed when picking up the next volume, that I would be swept back into the embrace of the characters using the same vocal tones. This was not the case here, and that almost caused me to for-go the rest of the series.
This difference of inflection and tone stayed with me throughout the entire novel. Not saying that this narrator isn't capable. He did a serviceable job, and I guess if I want to see how the rest of the novels progress, I need to get used to his long awkward pauses.

DS George Cross can be rude, difficult, and awkward with people. But his unfailing logic and relentless pursuit of justice means his conviction rate is the best on the force. When a ravaged body is found in a local demolition site, it is up to Cross to piece together the truth from whatever fragments he can find. DS Cross has little to go on, but from the faint tan lines on the body and strange scars on his forearms, an identity gradually emerges. Cross mounts an investigation that will uncover jealousy, ambition and a family tearing itself apart.

almost as good
Revisado: 03-23-25
I finished the first DS Cross book yesterday morning. and had some furniture to build so I loaded up the second book and listened to all but an hour of it throughout the rest of the day.
I love Cross's character. he's written really well, and I see a lot of one of my friends in him.
I think I was a little disappointed that the story flow, while much shorter, was almost beat for beat, the same as the dentist. especially when it got to the end and cross is doing the interviews.
narrator is great.
I do have a complaint about the three spots where a sentence is repeated in the recording. kinda throws you out of the emersion.

Historia
As usual, Montana Coggeshall is hell-bent on doing what's right, even if what's right isn't exactly what's wise. So he embarks on a quest to vanquish the corrupted ursus, a threat so large they could destroy the entire world of iNcarn8. Does Montana head out after months of training for cold weather conditions, amassing an army, and strategizing with his top aides? Not really. It's more like he just walks out of his holding one day with a guide and the members of his hirð. They're just a bunch of angry teddy bears, right?

funniest of the three so far.
Revisado: 01-17-25
I've read the first three in the Good Guys series in quick succession. this one with the inclusion of the otters has been the funniest of the three. with the two skeld and Ragnar providing several spots where I laughed out loud. if this keeps up, it will be a good series.

maybe it's me.
Revisado: 12-17-24
I've read Dean Koontz's work for years. he's a reliable story teller that has some suspense and quirk in the mix that makes for a good evening listen. but after "Tick Tock", "Watcher", "Phantoms", and the Odd Thomas series, the last several books of his that I've read have all felt like the same story just with different strings of words. This one was fine... though, it ended with a resounding dud. just as I thought the action was going to pick up and carry on to the climactic meeting between "good and evil" ... it's over in a few paragraphs and the book ends.

Not what I remembered.
Revisado: 11-24-24
I read this book in the mid 90's as an adolescent. I remember being terrified of the Fool, and feeling a sort of way about Gabby... that being said, there is a scene in here that should come with a trigger warning for some, because it involves "grape" and the fall out from the horrible ordeal.
I haven't seen anyone else add this to their review, so I wanted to have it know.

Historia
Of course, if there were only one thing under Liscor, there would be far less to fear. However, the dungeon continues to be a threat. At the same time, Goblins continue to roam northern Izril, but not all of them are as hostile to people as Tremborag or the Goblin Lord. Will the Unseen Emperor of Riverfarm make that distinction, however? A reckoning is coming as old faces and new reemerge. And all the while, The Wandering Inn is still serving food and respite and even plays to adventurers and Antinium alike. But something is coming from the dungeons. And it—they—are hungry.

"On your left"
Revisado: 07-31-24
I want to keep this short by saying I would compare this novel to "Avengers: Endgame". With the line, "Hi! I'm Erin. Welcome to my inn," as the "on your left" line, that got theatres across the world jumping and screaming.
this book is f*cking awesome! I can't wait for #9.

more than a year.
Revisado: 05-17-24
the politics in this story are great. the enter play of parties, positions, factions, study, it's fantastic.
my gripe is with the pacing, and the narration.
I started this in the winter of '22, and had to keep putting it down because the narrator doesn't differentiate voices well, or give enough of a pause between sentences and paragraphs, to let your brain absorb what's been said. pair that with the dense material and trying to figure out the weird phrasings of mundane things given different names...
but. here we are in the early summer of '24 and I've finally finished it.
maybe the next two books will be a little better.

small issues
Revisado: 05-13-24
I love this story. great middle book. my biggest complaint is the female narrator. A) she has the same issue as a lot of female narrators where her voice gets too quiet for me to hear at some points. B) her accents were so far off of the male narrator's, it make it hard to follow which character is which. C) she mis pronounced several words. and each of the five times I counted, it pulled me completely out of the story.
