Historia
A deeply personal work about identity and belonging in a nation coming apart at the seams, Homeland Elegies blends fact and fiction to tell an epic story of longing and dispossession in the world that 9/11 made. Part family drama, part social essay, part picaresque novel, at its heart it is the story of a father, a son, and the country they both call home.

Intelligence and Humanity
Revisado: 11-05-20
I responded to Ayad’s humility, honesty and directness. Of course, his writing style and use of language is captivating. I was a little shocked about his sexual encounters. The discourse openly linked to loneliness, ambivalence and potential violence. This made it personal to me and I felt a courageous willingness from him to share his complicated inner feelings about his upbringing and American homeland. This book taught me that we all have conflicting feelings and experiences with America. No matter our gender, our ethnicity or financial class... there is betrayal and seduction in the American experience. This reveals a harsh reality of exclusion and judgement about what is a successful life. Money has become the god of America. My heart cries out that it has passed by humanity for many years. To live at all with compassion and heart is risky now...but I believe it to be the only way to bear what America has become and what is needed to reset the moral compass of our shared experience.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

We have no idea
Revisado: 03-14-20
The importance of this book cannot be overstated. No one sustains a sense of history. This book however will continue to share with us the truth of apartheid for centuries to come. No one can imagine the reality of that world unless they lived it. Trevor has. Thank you so much, Trevor. We are all better for beginning to understand the world that was created, sustained and completed in such ignorance by those in charge of South Africa and apartheid. May it never happen again because of your effort in telling the truth of you life.

Historia
Brilliantly executed and compulsively listenable, Unsheltered is the story of two families, in two centuries, who live at the corner of Sixth and Plum, as they navigate the challenges of surviving a world in the throes of major cultural shifts. In this mesmerizing story told in alternating chapters, Willa and Thatcher come to realize that though the future is uncertain, even unnerving, shelter can be found in the bonds of kindred - whether family or friends - and in the strength of the human spirit.

Strong Creative Story
Revisado: 05-24-19
I liked the linking of the 2 eras in this Kingsolver book which is complex, detailed and slowly revealing. My one criticism is that, at times, the detail became tedious to me. I’m not sure it was the narration style or the content. I hung in there and enjoyed the arc of the story line.
Someone who enjoys environmentalism, science and botany would dive deeply into this story because of the way the past and present collide revealing new evidence of how to live.

Great characters!
Revisado: 06-20-17
What a fantastic Book. Excellent characters and great character development and the narration is phenomenal. They should get rid of the piano music at the end and beginning of each chapter. It distracts from the great narration.
