Historia
Living off the land and adapting to a changing environment takes a special individual with the unique skills, training, and determination necessary to survive. Gus Berry is not that individual. The former house painter barely made it out of Annapolis as its population underwent a violent transformation, leaving everyone he knew or loved dead—or undead. Now, Gus needs food and booze, weapons and armor, clothing that fits, and above all, toilet paper, preferably two-ply.

Meh, maybe time to stop.
Revisado: 02-15-22
I like the series as a whole. If another drops I will read or listen to it. That being said its time to stop with this series or at least with my favorite overweight painter.
The below average main character theme may have lost its charm.
The book felt like a rehash of past books. The actions, the silly antics, The bowl movement schedules etc. All of it redone just not as good or maybe I'm just tired of a character who almost craps his underwear so often. Hearing chapter upon chapter of what he eats and drinks made it tuff on me this time around.
The first few books in this series brought me over to Blackmore having absorbed everything he has written available on amazon. I think we can fall in love with a character to much causing the narrative to carry on to long. RC Bray's performance is awesome as always.

Solid series so far, but.
Revisado: 11-24-20
I really enjoyed Carey's The Girl with all the gifts also its follow-up so I thought I would give this series a try. It is reminiscent in the spirit of the stories previously mentioned however not as dark yet. Koli's dystopian setting feels fresh and new. Characters are engaging, interesting, believable. The narration is top-notch. The story is not a typical post-doomsday. the pacing feels smooth,
Still, I am afraid this will be challenging to end on a trilogy leaving me wanting more, I Hope Carey continues to build on these worlds he has made. Before I forget to mention be ready for some "WOKE",
To Carey's credit, though it felt a little pushed in, Side plots have not detracted from the story in my opinion but have added new depth. I find myself rooting for the character in question feeling investment has been achieved. This fact I state more as a warning for some who are hanging on to a pre-millennium view of the social norms around us.
I give it a thumbs up, with the other thumb still undecided.

Historia
It is autumn 1981 when inconceivable horror comes to Blackeberg, a suburb in Sweden. The body of a teenager is found, emptied of blood, the murder rumored to be part of a ritual killing. Twelve-year-old Oskar is personally hoping that revenge has come at long last—revenge for the bullying he endures at school, day after day. But the murder is not the most important thing on his mind. A new girl has moved in next door—a girl who has never seen a Rubik's Cube before, but who can solve it at once. There is something wrong with her, though, something odd. And she only comes out at night.

What Vampires should be.
Revisado: 08-18-20
Simple Review.
If you want to observe a darker more believable monster and story this is a good place to start. The American movie though entertaining is not as good or really the same story outside of the very basic idea. The book is a slow burn and more a character study to me than a pure horror or action tale.
A serious grownup vamp fan favorite.

Promising so far
Revisado: 08-18-20
Simple review.
A fresh look at a well-used genre and setting. The characters are interesting the narration is solid. Carey delivers in his character development in a way that brings things into a more modern culturally diverse setting without going overboard.
You will recognize many story elements here from other books by solid authors. However, Carey succeeds in adding his own cards to a well-used deck.
I will definitely use a credit for the next offering in the series.

An average meal from a favorite menu.
Revisado: 08-18-20

Will I pick the next in series up. Maybe.
The story is pretty straightforward. The narration is solid. The story's circumstances are far from anything you have not already read before many times. Maybe better maybe worse. I have read or listened to much of Devon C Ford's offerings this would be placed far below the After It Happened series for example.
Verdict So far.
Save this one for when the A list is a little short. Or you are in between a great series and need to fill the void.

Simple review.
This is not a bad book. It just is not as good as the first. The story brings things to a close in a way that felt too neat and a little sudden. There is no real stirring action. Nothing is really added here or explained beyond the first book as far as motives besides the main character. The story fails to add any of the less is more value of the first book. Instead, less is just less. The tricks are all out of the bag here and they are not near as tasty.

I will keep it basic. If you liked the other books and made it this far you will like this book as well. The ending is soft IMHO but the door is left open for further exploits in the setting. Would like to see more exploration into the characters in the story as well as the enemy but like I said the door is still open in that regard. Great narration as always.
