Historia
In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl". The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

A can't stop listening/reading book
Revisado: 02-22-23
This is the first book I've read by this author. Being an Anne Rule fan I now have a replacement. The backstory leading up to the crime kept you interested all the way through.
I admit usually I never am as interested in the court part of the book. But already a fan of Kelly Sigler before "Cold Justice" I really could not stop listening. Yes the prosecutor who never lost a case even when it had a retrial on appeal.
The narrator was great too. I enjoy when they change voices for different characters or at least for sex and age. I also had to listen at the regular speed. This wasn't a slow narration that I had to listen at 150% to 175%. over all I really recommend this for true crime fans, and Anne Rule fans. Oh and start off at 100% speed so you don't get a chipmunk reading like I did. 😂

I enjoyed most of the book. the last third was a little slow. while the epilogue tied up the loose ends it was the hardest to get through.

couldn't finish
Revisado: 10-24-22
The book barely touched on the murders. I think I got a good history of Islamic religion in the US. A very in-depth look at the political figures and the police involved. At chapter 9 and just a bare mention of the dates and victims? Nah I don't recommend this book for true crime readers.

Historia
On Friday the 26th of November 2010, at 5:15 pm, Yara said goodbye to her family, left home, and walked the short distance to her gym. Five hours later, she would die alone in a field while her whole family was out looking for her. It would be six years before justice was served, but this case is proof of what a justice system is capable of when the police focus on catching a murderer. Learn more about your ad choices. This Hawaiian no can deal!
Revisado: 11-28-18
I just couldn't finish this book. I think it's just being Hawaiian and the portrayal of us was, was, well so wrong! I almost didn't get out of the airport. I almost threw my Kindle when it was brudda instead of brah. Yeah dat's right brah, not bra, not brudda. (Oh yeah dat's is pronounced das.) I put the Kindle down and walked away for the day after my next rant. "The lei is a plumeria, we call it frangipani." Uh, no! I always called it plumeria. I never heard of it as frangipani till a few years ago, and had to look it up. So for 50 years we nevah wen call it frangipani. I'm starting to see why people have such a misconception of how we live and talk in Hawaii. Be warned we don't talk Hawaiian Pigeon English like this book depicts. And as far as the way we live I couldn't deal so I neveh got far enough in da book. Sorry I sound so harsh but it really grated me the wrong way.

A great modern speak version of Cliff Notes.
Revisado: 09-11-18
I confess I am an addict of the YouTube channel that this is on. Sometimes the language is a bit uhm crass or blunt, but it's like the podcast Small Town Murder you just can't help but love it. In a way at times I understand Sparky Sweets' way of breaking down the books better. He brought the plot and message of A Handmaids Tale to me clearly. Because I was honestly a bit confused with the end of that one. If your kids are at the age that will be exposed to the language anyway and you homeschool (YES! Hold on to your panties!) I say that this is a great reference.
