Lots of great advice I wish I had been given in my early 20s. Now in my 50s, it’s not quite as useful.

copy and paste ending actions at the end of every chapter was grating. could have been a shorter book.

I'm a huge fan of the original Phoenix Project novel. In it, we follow an IT department attached to a retail car parts supplier through their journey of total dysfunction to a solid partner with the business. The Unicorn Project takes us on a journey with the same company, and the same time-period, but instead of following along with the IT operations, we follow closely along with the development teams.
And like the Phoenix Project, this novel is full of all sorts of ideas and insights that are sure to inform the next generation of IT and Business leaders, because as the novel makes clear, there cannot really be a stark line dividing these two parts of the business body.

I appreciate that Scott dives into the deep process of truly learning. mnemonics are great, but they have limited application in the real world. Scott's process is one that anyone with the right level of motivation can follow along and meet with success.

I read this years ago, and I remember liking it, but I'm not sure I managed to take in as much in the first reading as I did during this listen. By King standards, this is a short novel. It's over almost as soon as it starts, but with the rich world building and character development, King delivers a lot in a nicely paced, compact read. When I first read this I managed to make it to the third book in the series. My goal this time is to complete them all. Definitely a must for a Weird Western readers, even though it's more a science fantasy.

Great novel, but I hope it isn't prophecy. Oryx & Crake is the sprawling story of how a plausible apocalypse happens with the help of three entangled individuals. Told in flashbacks and the present setting of the apocalypse, Jimmy recounts the events that brought humanity to the final end.

Victor LaValle's offering to the Lovecraft Mythos embraces the pulp era's weirdness all while shedding a bright light on the racist elements of Lovecraft's works. LaValle paints a vivid and varied image of early 1900s New York that resonates. This is Mythos at its finest, and I'm glad to see it tackled from a diverse perspective. It was all the more enjoyable for it.

Actionable steps to take your productivity to the next level

This complete set of books will give you actionable steps to improve your overall writing productivity. I especially enjoyed the author's openness about her various trials and errors, and a thorough explanation of how she corrected her pain points. I've used dictation for a few years, but only for notes and outlines. I'll try dictating scenes for my next story. I believe these books are targeted to genre authors who wish to produce more for the independent book market, but there's no reason a traditionally published author can't take advantage of the many, many productivity hacks.

A mesmerizing work of intimate brilliance

This is only the second work of Woolf's I've read, and overall it presents an intimate portrait of a family who lives near a lighthouse. The frail assumptions, the insecurities, the tiny triumphs, the rare moments of insight are all captured here with a stream of consciousness technique that is as lovely and flowing as the sea. The many wars play a fundamental role in shaping the narrative as male and female characters explore the meaning of the opposite sex and both fail to understand the needs and desires of the other. These inner conflicts are amplified by the moment to moment actions of this story's cast. A loving experience, I wish I could have experienced this work with fewer daily distractions myself. I can't wait to read the rest of Woolf's all too short bibliography.
