Good refresher annoying American narrator

The production quality is not great. The readers affect and inflection often doesn’t make sense in the context because the audio is cut and pasted. It really annoying and so is he. She has a great voice. The content is good though and I recommend it as long as you aren’t bothered by the poor cut up of the audio. He really should remake this.

Helpful but kind of annoying

I found the concept and explanation to be good. I have a good background in French and this was a bit too basic for me but I think his tips and tricks to basic sentence structure are good and helpful.

Production quality is so so and the reader (author) has very annoying pronunciation and voice inflection (nasally too). His pronunciation of the word “what” is wot which grated on me.

Good, but 10 hours too long

If you have listened to the other books in the series then obviously you should continue. I found this one to be way too long though and much of it is repetitive or unnecessary.

I, and I think most listeners, like the development of new technologies, new found “Americans” and the alien aspect. That is about 1/10th of this book which is a bummer. There is so much clay to be molded with the concept, Olan keeps working on the first bowl, time to progress.

Jonathan Davis was the best part of this one.

Not very good

The premise had potential, but the writer didn’t do much with it and narrator didn’t do it any favors. He sounds like an amateur. I got through 60% and finally asked myself why was I wasting my time and stopped listening.

Gave up after ch 37

I gave it time but it really went nowhere, characters are un developed, story jumps around way too much so there is no continuity to it. As a result I never really cared what happened to the characters which was/is the kiss of death for me in an audiobook.

The narrator is good.

I tried. He’s is a poor reader of his own writing and his “funny” little quips every other sentence are off putting and annoying. I wouldn’t waste a credit on this, maybe worth it if it’s in the free catalog.

The narrator, Ray Porter, saves this book

This is an average, at best, pre-post-apocalyptic story. The intro book really should be half as long but be included with the next book. The approaching aliens have nothing to do with this story in part 1 anyway so if that is why you are looking to use a credit on this book, don't bother. Commune is a much better representative of the post-a genre and well worth a credit.
