Historia
Aging has long been considered a normal process. We think disease, frailty, and gradual decline are inevitable parts of life. But they’re not. Science today sees aging as a treatable disease. By addressing its root causes we can not only increase our health span and live longer but prevent and reverse the diseases of aging—including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and dementia.

Starts Well But Fades
Revisado: 05-04-24
The first half of the book is informative to the point of being overwhelming at times. In the second half of the book, the author seems focused mainly on monetizing the information, and many bits of text are repeated. The repeated text started to sound like filler after a while.
I went to the recommended website and was very turned-off. They suggest you might be able to join their group, if you can "get in". A day or two later you are told you might get an open slot, but have five days to act (one assumes that means pay money). Now I apparently missed my window to join and must wait again. This is nonsense.

Historia
At the age of 44, renowned comedian and Curb Your Enthusiasm regular Richard Lewis found himself on a gurney in the ER, toxic with alcohol and hallucinating from excess cocaine use. The same neuroses and dysfunctions that had been the basis for his successful stage persona and inspired his best material had, it seemed, turned on him.

What a Non-Stop Bummer...
Revisado: 03-28-24
You would normally expect a book by a comedian to have a few laughs, but there are few in this book, if any. Great that Lewis overcame his demons, but how many hours is one expected to listen to the harping? In the end he had many years sober, but he was still clearly a depressed human being. One wonders why this book was ever written....

Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.

Ken Jennings Can Do Better
Revisado: 09-07-23
As a big fan of the only person who should host Jeopardy, I found this book mostly boring. It is a bad sign when you cannot wait for a book to end.
I suspect Ken has a better book in mind, and this one was for practice.

Historia
In 1986, Paul Newman and his closest friend, screenwriter Stewart Stern, began an extraordinary project. Stuart was to compile an oral history, to have Newman’s family and friends and those who worked closely with him, talk about the actor’s life. And then Newman would work with Stewart and give his side of the story. The only stipulation was that anyone who spoke on the record had to be completely honest. The result is The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man—revelatory and introspective, personal and analytical, loving and tender in places, always complex and profound.

You hear them first, the whop whop sound of rotor blades chopping through the humid Vietnam air. Suddenly they appear, screaming toward the landing zone at treetop level. When one helicopter crashes in flames, the pilots in the others maintain formation and push ahead. Nothing deters these warriors, volunteers all, from flying on with the tenaciousness of zealots. Mended Wings is their story. Follow the lives of ten Purple Heart heroes as they relate the Vietnam War experience from the perspective of the helicopter cockpit.

Stories Fade Into Each Other
Revisado: 02-12-23
I am a big fan of military books, and bought this one thinking ten short stories would be more fun to listen to. The opposite is what I experienced. One story sounds a lot like the next. My iPhone once again allowed me to accidentally go back several chapters and the stories are so similar, I did not discover this until I realized I had heard particular details before.

Historia
It was a pretty radical idea - a channel for teenagers, showing nothing but music videos. It was such a radical idea that almost no one thought it would actually succeed, much less become a force in the worlds of music, television, film, fashion, sports, and even politics. But it did work. MTV became more than anyone had ever imagined. I Want My MTV tells the story of the first decade of MTV, the golden era when MTV's programming was all videos, all the time, and kids watched religiously to see their favorite bands, learn about new music, and have something to talk about at parties.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Historia
When we seek an example of great leaders with unalloyed courage, the person who comes to mind is Winston Churchill: the iconic, visionary war leader immune from the consensus of the day, who stood firmly for his beliefs when everyone doubted him. But how did young Winston become Churchill? What gave him the strength to take on the superior force of Nazi Germany when bombs rained on London and so many others had caved? In this landmark biography of Winston Churchill based on extensive new material, the true genius of the man, statesman, and leader can finally be fully understood.

Much More Book Than It Needed To Be

A book of this considerable length, becomes a burden after a while. If the author had cut out half the material, if would have made for a far more enjoyable read.
