Slow Burn
Revisado: 04-15-25
I've listened to this book twice now and I love it so much. It’s a slow burn romance. It’s very well written. Definitely worth the read!

Historia
With ailing family to support, Evie Sage's employment status isn't just important, it's vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn's most infamous Villain results in a job offer—naturally, she says yes. No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don't find evil so attractive, Evie. But just when she's getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat . . . and not just the literal kind.

So Cringe
Revisado: 03-04-25
First of all the reader was awful. I almost couldn't finish this book because she was so bad. The poorly timed spaces, the odd or lack of inflection was so jarring. I mightve enjoyed it more if I read it instead, but that brings me to my second point.
Second of all, the story is not well flushed out. The characters are interesting if not cliché. The plot is compartmentalized and broken into neat parts rather than flowing. It had pacing issues and nothing felt organic. Making clumsiness a plot point is pretty flimsy. And for a Villain, hes not very good at making strategies or flushing out traitors. Instead, the author points fingers at characters and tosses a plot twist with very little foreshadowing. Honestly it didn't make sense.
I will not be reading the rest of the series, I'm so thankful to be done with this story that didnt even need to be as long as it was. Definitely not for me. Good luck.

Historia
When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here. It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right? Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no.

I was disappointed
Revisado: 12-21-18
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Three Mages and a Margarita. it was fun, witty, and a unique premise, a non-magic human surrounded by magic users! I had high expectations for this one. It starts out fun, but goes downhill quickly. I could've gotten behind the fact that Tori faced in head first over her head because she saw herself in the missing girl, but the rest was hard to get through. Tori's infatuation with the Shadow Mage was cringeworthy. She spends more time drooling over him than anything else. A lot of the situations she finds herself in with him don't feel natural. All this after a knee-weakening make out session with Aaron. The plot twist was good. But the final show down relied too heavily on the Shadow Mage. Three powerful mages and this guy is stronger than all of them? I felt let down by this book. I've been reading Red Winter and Dark Tempest by this author and am in love with them! This one just isn't a strong sequel.

So Sweet
Revisado: 07-12-18
It was so interesting to hear a story from a Male point of view who wasn't constantly thinking of how hot his female counterpart is. While Rosie is an interesting character, you only see her through the main character's, Don, eyes. He isn't good with social skills and expressions which makes his inter monologue funny when he misinterprets something.
I had many laugh out loud moments with this book and was invested in their relationship. Find out if Don is incapable of love and who Rosie's really father is.

Historia
When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed. Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed. Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her, and hers towards him. And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

Stockholm Syndrome
Revisado: 06-27-18
This books is what Stockholm Syndrome looks like, "Do what I say or you be severely punished". There's a point where she has the chance to run from him but is terrified that once he recovers he's just going to find her and punish her even worse than he already has, but convinces herself it's out of concern for his immortal recovery. I honestly don't understand how it has such high ratings. The plot was interesting and I thought it would be more of a 'Beauty and the Beast' theme, but it was so horrible with its plot holes, lack of character development aside from sexual attraction, and dialogue was so forced. If it weren't for the narrator, who helps jazz it up, I would have dumped this book sooner.
Supremely disappointed.

Ellen Archer is amazing
Revisado: 05-20-17
This was such a great follow up to Mirror Sight. It's a wonderful progression to the series it's very much been needing. As a long standing fan of Ms. Britain, I am so very happy with this book. I finally feel like we're starting to get somewhere with this series. And to see such a shift in Karigan and her journey to push through it is a wonderful addition for her character development.
And after listening to several audio books through audibles, Ellen Archer is hands down my favorite reader. She does such a wonder job!

My Favorite Series of All Time
Revisado: 10-31-16
I first picked up this book when I was 15. And I could not out it down. I've owned the print edition for a very long time. When I got audible on my phone I got a book I knew I'd like. Even though I know the story by heart, the reader brought dialogue and pronunciations to life for me making it more real. Trying other books here on this site I haven't come across a better reader than Ellen Archer. She swept me away.
This book alone is filled with a strong willed young woman who gets swept up in magic and intrigue. I found it odd at first that a messenger service would be the profession that holds mystic abilities, but Ms. Britain has a surprise in store for you. This book is a beautiful fantasy realm that I cannot get enough of. Strong female lead, magic, politics, horses!, and a pinch of romance. A beautiful start to a fantastic series.

Cass Clereaux is good at two things: finding treasure and killing demons. Lying low is a close third - but not because she wants to be good at hiding. Cass is a FireSoul, one of the unlucky few to inherit a piece of a dragon's soul. On the surface, the perks are sweet - she has the power to find and steal any type of magical treasure, including the powers of other supernaturals. But it doesn't come without a price; stealing powers requires that she kill, and others would destroy her if they discover what she is.

Plain
Revisado: 09-21-16
The reader only has five inflections and it grated on me. The female lead gets hurt on ever venture and the male lead almost never does. They're both boring, predictable characters. I think her sisters are more fun. Not even the bad guys have personality. The only reason I kept reading was to find out what happened to the three girls in the prologue. I was disappointed.

Not a bad concept
Revisado: 09-21-16
I enjoyed the concept of this story. the reader wasn't strong but didn't ruin it. It wasn't a revolutionary story like and it's predictable and the characters were plain. But the idea was fairly interesting and the message while not unique, still good. If you're looking for something mellow and fun, it's good for that.
I'd probably read the second book.
