Heartbreaking
Revisado: 11-25-23
Dear Brittany,
I haven't finished this audiobook yet because I can only listen to so much at a time. I am absolutely heartbroken that this was your life. That your childhood, womanhood and motherhood were so brutally stolen from you by people who should have absolutely been there for you. I was in college in Malibu around the time you had shaved your hair off. Someone had come by my dorm and said they saw you around the old Blockbuster that used to be there before the news had gotten out. I knew something was wrong and recall wondering what had happened. When the news hit, I remember the narrative at that time. You were crazy--that was the media spin. And i am saddened that so many of us bought it. I wish I could have met you and been the friend that you needed. I can't even imagine the pain and betrayal you endured. I have children and my heart aches that the men in your life and your blood family members would take them away from you and dangle them before you. Making you "work" or pay money to see them-- as if you were lucky to have a relationship with them at all. It takes a special kind of evil to do all that these people have done. What they did was criminal. Trust me, they will get their just deserts in the end.
In truth, I wish I could have been at that Blockbuster years ago and helped. I pray that things have changed and hope your children will one day understand how hard you fought for them and love them, if they don't know already. I am not saying any of this as a superfan. Your music is great; but I admire you for the resilient human being that you are. You hung in there and finally have your life back. Just know there are people out there who are rooting for you. Take care and thanks for having the guts to reveal all of this and shed light on your most vulnerable moments. If anything I will now have more compassion for those in the public eye. You never know what there real struggles may be.

Historia
The Omehi people have been fighting an unwinnable fight for almost 200 years. The lucky ones are born gifted. One in every 2,000 women has the power to call down dragons. One in every 100 men is able to magically transform himself into a bigger, stronger, faster killing machine. Everyone else is fodder, destined to fight and die in the endless war. Young, giftless Tau knows all this, but he has a plan of escape. He's going to get himself injured, get out early, and settle down to marriage, children, and land. Only, he doesn't get the chance. Those closest to him are murdered....

Enjoyed the story of Tau and his rise from the ashes. Hooked from start to finish. Action scenes are written impeccably as if the writer has been in combat, lol. The Narrato is excellent as well. I haven't checked to see if the second book is out yet--hope it is. If not, im anxiously awaiting the next installment. Definitely give this series a try!

I don't always enjoy dystopian tales but this one has me hooked.! Lilah and Adam were fun to follow. Kudos to the author for creating two POV characters that are likeable and relatable despite their flaws! The pacing of the story was nice and so was the tension--it was hard for me to stop listening, which is always a good thing.
If you haven't tried the series, I' wholeheartedly recommend you give it a try. It doesn't disappoint.
