The characters were “normal”. The plot was far fetched in a way - but that’s what makes it work.

These mysteries are both interesting and quaint. I appreciate having a mature sleuth (Miss Marple-esque).

The performer does an excellent job - especially infusing the story with smiles and pleasure.

This book borrowed from the history of the SOE (Britain’s CIA during WWII)- and in a good way!

There was an allied spy who passed messages the same way. She was an old lady and no one ever suspected her pastime to be espionage.

I really enjoyed the book and highly recommend it. I would also suggest looking at some of the excellent histories from the period - especially the brave and daring women.

Fun little detective escapades. The new maid is SO Annoying. The rest of the storyline and characters are a bit typecast but light hearted entertainment.

Listened to every single Michael J Sullivan book. While of course there are “filler” characters - his antagonists and protagonists are compelling - irresistible. Finish one book and cannot wait to start the next.

Hadrian and Royce conversations are sometimes funny; sometimes frustrating; and sometimes glum. But they are never dull.

The North’s Underestimated General

Meade was an underestimated General. While no Grant or Thomas he was head & shoulders better than the overestimated Sherman. Lincoln’s criticism of Meade for not destroying the Army of NVA should rest more squarely on Sherman who was consistently whipped by Confederates and was too inept to defeat Hood’s depleted AOT. That task was left to the competent Thomas who was another superior General belittled and abused by Lincoln. A character flaw that marked his lack of judgment and discernment when it came to military matters. Meade was one of the best Generals of the Civil War and his victory at Gettysburg proves it.

Great General & Poor Judge of Men

It is easy to describe Grant as a great General. He was easily that. While his struggle with alcohol was a weakness, his greatest flaw was his inability to judge men. His inordinate praise of Sherman as a great General stands out as a glaring example of his poor judgment. Sherman, who was consistently whipped by Confederates, was an overrated hack. His one victory (eventually seizing Atlanta) was followed by his failure to destroy Hood’s Army. Afraid to take on the AoT Sherman determined to make war on women, children and the elderly. Grant’s standing by his military version of Ward reveal his fatal flaw was not alcohol, but discernment. A flaw that haunted and marred his life & legacy.

SpecOps wife/mom is the least aware of PerSec (Personal Security) I’ve ever known. They are tough as nails and it is so frustrating to listen to such a whiney woman.

The son is a good character.

Otherwise story is good and action-packed.

Action-packed and good storyline.

It is just terribly frustrating when they get the jargon so wrong. In fact is actually insulting to some service members.

Navy Enlisted Medical Personnel = CORPSMAN pronounced “core-man/men”. NOT corpse-man. They are NOT referred to as medics by anyone. Corpsmen that serve with Marines are often referred to as “docs”.

Corpsmen do receive specialized training when attached to a Marine Corps unit. And for East Coast that is at Camp Lejeune. So that was accurate.

Corpsmen and other Navy personnel who serve with the USMC are NEVER referred to as jarheads. That is an anathema. Only those who have stepped on those yellow footprints can claim that moniker.

Ooh-rah is the slogan for the Marine Corps - not the Navy. It may be used in situ with Marines and their families or about a Marine.

This review may seem nit-picky and trivial but Marines do not take misuse of their traditions lightly.
