Stunning and shocking Vanderbilt family history
Revisado: 02-26-24
Thank you AC for sharing this family history! It was a grand insight into a thoroughly unique family that is a diorama of the American Dream. Although not too unlike many other American families, the Vanderbilts were always a source of curiosity for most. This book gave a glance into what money might do to, what may have been, any other average family.

Historia
When a local woman tells Sergeant Hamish Macbeth that she doesn't remember what happened the previous evening, he doesn't begin to worry. She had been out drinking, after all, and he'd prefer not to be bothered with such an arrogant and annoying woman. But when her body is discovered, Hamish is forced to investigate a crime that the only known witness - now dead - had forgotten.

A lot of characters!
Revisado: 02-06-24
I'm working my way through the Hamish Macbeth Mysteries and love them!
I'm addicted to them like a box of chocolates, I gotta get to the next as soon as I finish one.
This is the first audiobook I've had with BookTrack, and I really am sorry to admit, it'll be my last!
If there was some way to turn the background sound and music down, I might be tempted to give it another try. I was in the 3rd chapter and some guitar was so loud, I had trouble hearing the dialogue!
On to the Death of a Policeman!

I love the descriptions of the Highland landscapes. Hamish MacBeth reminds me of Columbo! I also like how the snooty people almost always eat their stupid remarks!

Historia
Melissa North had assumed that after eight years of not setting eyes on each other, her youthful attraction to - or an infatuation with - Julian Delamere, once Viscount Dagenham and now earl of Carsely, would have faded to nothing and gasped its last. Unfortunately, during the intervening years, she has failed to find any suitable suitor who measures up to her mark, and she is resigned to ending her days an old maid. Then she sees Julian across a crowded ballroom, and he sees her, and the intensity of their connection shocks her.

The Fifth and Final of Lady Osbaldestone's Christmas Chronicles
Revisado: 12-08-23
I loved that it brought Melissa and Julian together almost immediately! Also, we got some action from Lady Osbaldestone, Jamie, George, Lottie and Mandy, as well as updates on most other characters from the previous four books.
What I had trouble with, after the former narrator, Helen Lloyd's excellent readings, was that this narrator seemed slow and tedious. However, bumping the speed up to just 1.2x solved that and it was much more enjoyable!

Historia
The story that made Agatha Christie famous ends with one of her most dramatic twists. The villagers of King’s Abbot are shocked when a wealthy local widow commits suicide and the very next day her fiancé, Roger Ackroyd, is stabbed to death. Dr. James Sheppard, the local physician, discovers the body of his friend and narrates the ensuing hunt for the killer. All the guests and staff at Ackroyd's country house seem to have solid alibis - except for his missing stepson.

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Historia
The year was 1935: the twilight of the English aristocracy. It was a time of wealth and glamour; of lavish balls and evening gowns; of tiaras and a coronation. As personal maid to Lady Coventry, Hilda Newman had a unique insight into the leisured life of one of Britain's most noble families. In her fascinating memoir of life upstairs and down, Hilda takes us back to this period between the wars; a gilded era which would soon be dramatically changed by the Second World War.

I can't pretend to be an author myself, so my opinion is only a reader's.
The narrator, Helen Lloyd is one of my very favorites! ❤️
