Historia
When Hollywood auctioneer Emsley Wilson finds her famous grandmother's diary while cleaning out her New York brownstone, the pages are full of surprises. The first surprise is, the diary isn't her grandmother's. It belongs to Johanna Bonger, Vincent van Gogh's sister-in-law.

Captivating tale!
Revisado: 03-16-23
I was compelled to stay up all night to finish this amazing stroll through history. Two women shatter the glass ceiling of their cultures which span over 120 years. Each exemplifies an "I CAN" spirit in the face of their contemporaries declaring "you can't". Character development is herb. The dual timeline flows seamlessly back-and-forth, but plot continuity is easy to follow. Surely we will see this story become a movie in the near future - it's too good! The audible narrator is excellent.
Great reading for a wide audience.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Really difficult, but in a necessary way.
Revisado: 02-23-20
Mr. Gladwell takes on the difficult task of discussing recent societal indignities & atrocities about which most of us have already rendered a final judgement. Because he reframes these situations into a different paradigm, the reader Is required to back up and re-think the facts of these old events. In some cases the reader may realize their own judgments have been based on answers to faulty questions. Gladwell forced us to ask new questions of particular old news in order to truly understand WHY they occurred.
I felt uncomfortable and confused much of the time, yet continued this strange & challenging journey. Stuff happened inside myself: shifts in my brain and heart. I’m still wrestling with it and on my 4th listen. It’s a marvelous challenge. Thank you Mr Gladwell for making earth safer and better for all.
Easy to rate this difficult book as the best of my year so far.

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Historia
Part epic of Texas, part classic coming-of-age story, part unflinching examination of the bloody price of power, The Son is a gripping and utterly transporting novel that maps the legacy of violence in the American west with rare emotional acuity, even as it presents an intimate portrait of one family across two centuries. Eli McCullough is just twelve-years-old when a marauding band of Comanche storm his Texas homestead and brutally murder his mother and sister, taking him as a captive.

Bit me in the heart❣️
Revisado: 03-27-17
Philip Meyer respectfully addresses the "other side" of our Texas heroes without losing their larger-than-life personas. I was completely enthralled for 3 days, but now left pondering my responsibility to "do something".
Without spelling it out, this tale implies that knowledge = responsibility.
Epic!

Historia
A revival environment creates increasing levels of joy, freedom, and peace. These qualities will only remain to the degree that we can protect our relationships with one another. The practice of honor is often a lost art in our modern culture. The Lord is restoring the value and practice of honor in His house. Our churches and homes will only be as strong as they are free. Restoring a culture of honor to our communities and nation will come as the Church embraces this call.

What the world needs now is HONOR!
Revisado: 07-17-16
Danny Silk provides great examples of real life predicaments where principles of honor (rather than shame) were applied and good stuff ensued. This teaching seminar is particularly excellent for any leader to have in their arsenal! I listened to it multiple times the first 4 days I owned it and will keep it on my iPad to revisit in the future.

Historia
Half an audiobook on basketball, half an audiobook on management techniques, The Gold Standard captures Coach K's personal style and approach to getting different (and sometimes difficult) people to work hard and succeed in reaching a common goal. "In all forms of leadership, whether you are a coach, a CEO, or a parent, there are four words that, when said, can bring out the best in your team, your employees, and your family...I believe in you. These four words can mean the difference between a fear of failure and the courage to try".

Revisado: 04-15-15
I just finished Coach K's The Gold Standard, and I feel sorta high! It is such a great story, chalked full of practical leadership applications. I especially love how he weaves basic good-human qualities into his life/coaching style.
