Historia
The mutiny on HMS Bounty, in the South Pacific on 28 April 1789, is one of history's truly great stories - a tale of human drama, intrigue and adventure of the highest order - and in the hands of Peter FitzSimons it comes to life as never before. Commissioned by the Royal Navy to collect breadfruit plants from Tahiti and take them to the West Indies, the Bounty's crew found themselves in a tropical paradise. Five months later, they did not want to leave.

After listening to a book about Captain Cook’s final voyage this book looked interesting. Indeed it is! Humorously written with wonderful details, always interesting. It opened the doors to an interesting true story I hadn’t known much about having been raised in America. Thanks to the author and his friends!👍

Historia
On July 12th, 1776, Captain James Cook, already lionized as the greatest explorer in British history, set off on his third voyage in his ship the HMS Resolution. Two-and-a-half years later, on a beach on the island of Hawaii, Cook was killed in a conflict with native Hawaiians. How did Cook, who was unique among captains for his respect for Indigenous peoples and cultures, come to that fatal moment? Hampton Sides’ bravura account of Cook’s last journey both wrestles with Cook’s legacy and provides a thrilling narrative of the titanic efforts and continual danger that characterized exploration.

Excellent true story
Revisado: 04-10-25
I’ve always wanted to know more about how Cook died after going to various Hawaiian islands and this book was really interesting. More than about just a search for a northwest passage, and that portion of it was something I didn’t know he was on. I sent a copy to a friend because I enjoyed this so much. Definitely worth your time. Loved the maps, too!

Frank, funny and open-hearted, You Never Know is an intimate memoir from one of the most beloved actors of our time, the highly personal story of a remarkable life and thoroughly accidental career. In his own voice and uniquely unpretentious style, the famed actor brings listeners on his uncharted but serendipitous journey to the top in Hollywood, his temptations and distractions, his misfires and mistakes and, over time, his well-earned success.

I first saw Tom Selleck in Magnum in the 1980’s and loved the series. His memoir is a walk down memory lane and he shows what a considerate, kind individual he is. I’m happy I listened to it and will also purchase a paper copy tomorrow. So glad I saw it at Barns and Nobles this week. Many wonderful quotes from his friends during his lifetime. The current generation needs more real men like him. Thanks.

Historia
As King James I’s favorite, Buckingham was also his confidant, gatekeeper, advisor and lover. When Charles I succeeded his father, he was similarly enthralled and made Buckingham his best friend and mentor. A dazzling figure on horseback and a skilful player of the political game, Buckingham rapidly transformed the influence his beauty gave him into immense wealth and power. He became one of the most flamboyant and enigmatic Englishmen at the heart of seventeenth-century royal and political life.

Interesting piece of history
Revisado: 03-06-25
I had very little understanding of this time in history being raised in the United States where one doesn’t learn about the English Civil War or events leading up to it. This book gives a good background of how court life was, how poor decisions on the part of those in charge of a nation ruin lives of many. I’m glad I listened to this and hope others do or read it as well. I also purchased a paper copy to see pictures and more easily re-read some sections.

Historia
“Even now, nearly a century after her death, Marie Curie remains the only female scientist most people can name,” writes Dava Sobel at the opening of her shining portrait of the sole Nobel laureate decorated in two separate fields of science—Physics in 1903 with her husband Pierre and Chemistry by herself in 1911. And yet, Sobel makes clear, as brilliant and creative as she was in the laboratory, Marie Curie was equally passionate outside it.

Historia
In 1912, scientist Marie Curie spent two months on the British seaside at the home of Hertha Ayrton, an accomplished mathematician, inventor, and suffragette. At the time, Curie was in the throes of a scandal in France over her affair with Paul Langevin, which threatened to overshadow the accomplishment of her second Nobel Prize. Performed by Kate Mulgrew and Francesca Faridany at the Minetta Lane Theatre, this play by Lauren Gunderson is an ode to two remarkable women.

Interesting story about two friends who helped each other in difficult situations. Marie Curie was quite awesome and human, treated so poorly by the scientific community. A man never would have been treated like that. Definitely listen to this!

Historia
Eighty-one-year-old widow Maggie Burkhardt came to the Royal Karnak to escape. But not in quite the same way as most other guests who are relaxing at this hotel on the banks of the Nile. Maggie, a compulsive fixer of other people’s lives, may have found herself in hot water at her last hotel in Switzerland and just might have needed to get out of there fast. But here at the Royal Karnak, under the hot Saharan sun, she has a comfortable suite, a loyal confidante in the hotel manager, Ahmed, and a handful of sympathetic friends. One morning, however, Maggie notices a new arrival at check-in.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Historia
Turmoil in the Mideast convinces Glen and Julie to linger in the South Pacific, visiting primitive villages on remote islands. But hang on tight, because to finish their voyage, they must leave friendly shores and navigate through trouble in the Indian Ocean, Gulf of Aden, and the Red Sea before arriving in Europe. Full of dry wit and compelling descriptions, Julie takes the listener along for the ride of a lifetime in this sequel (book two of the Escape Series) to her previous best seller Escape from the Ordinary.

I was surprised at Delony‘a honesty, and thankful to hear what he had to say to live an non-anxious life. I’ll be incorporating it in my own. In the last chapter I think, he said it’s hard to workout and stay in shape, but it’s also hard to walk around 100 pounds overweight. So true. We choose our hard. I’ll take that thought with me to the grave!👍
