Poetic Epic Fantasy

The narration seemed to get better as it went along. This story is deeply magical and mythical. Reminiscent of Tolkien. Bonus points if you play harp like I do!

Great story
Revisado: 11-07-24
Great story, the narration is good and the narrator uses different distinct voices but the pronunciation of some of his words is annoying and his "___said" gets annoying too, but really good overall.

Historia
A gifted young knight named Collum arrives at Camelot to compete for a place at the Round Table, only to find that he’s too late. King Arthur died two weeks ago at the Battle of Camlann, and only a handful of the knights of the Round Table are left. The survivors aren’t the heroes of legend like Lancelot or Gawain. They’re the oddballs of the Round Table, like Sir Palomides, the Saracen Knight, and Sir Dagonet, Arthur’s fool, who was knighted as a joke. They’re joined by Nimue, who was Merlin’s apprentice until she turned on him and buried him under a hill.

A new twist on King Arthur
Revisado: 08-28-24
I have read & listened to many many books on King Arthur. This by far was the most entertaining and the most original King Arthur story I've encountered! It has elements of some really old and accurate information that pertains to his story, plus loads of fun bits & bobs that will make you laugh out loud! Don't hesitate on this one, it's a gem!

The imaginative creation of the magical systems throughout are wonderful.

To lose Rikus for the whole book practically, took out my favorite aspect of this series, which is the humor that the "Squirrel Cat" brings. That animal is laugh out loud funny and to be stuck with a self-effacing immature Kellen for the whole story was almost too much to bear. If the author didn't bring him back, I wouldn't continue with this series. Rikus rules! 😂

Historia
The stories of King Arthur and Merlin, Lancelot and Guinevere, Galahad, Gawain, Tristan and the rest of the Knights of the Roundtable, and the search for the Holy Grail have been beloved for centuries and are the inspiration of many modern fantasy novels, films, and shows. These legends began when an obscure Celtic hero named Arthur stepped on to the stage of history sometime in the sixth century, generating a host of oral tales that would be inscribed some 900 years later by Thomas Malory in his classic Morte D’Arthur (The Death of Arthur).

This is a fantastic book. You must also buy the book as the illustrations are awesome. I’m an Arthurian scholar and I haven’t heard some of these stories. Excellent narration. A rare gem of a listen.

Grabs you and doesn't let go!
Revisado: 05-03-19
I really enjoyed this book! The story was top notch and the narrator was extremely good. I found myself in suspense, laughing and just thoroughly enjoying the whole experience! I felt transported to sometime in the 40's with a Private Eye feel to it, like the movie from the 90's, "Cast a Deadly Spell". Highly recommended.
