Historia
Humankind's relationship with the wolf is the sum of a spectrum of responses ranging from fear to admiration and affection. Lopez's classic, careful study has won praise from a wide range of reviewers and improved the way books on wild animals are written. Of Wolves and Men explores the uneasy interaction between wolves and civilization over the centuries, and the wolf's prominence in our thoughts about wild creatures.

Too biased to be enjoyed
Revisado: 02-15-25
The cultural bias of the author against European society, especially during the Middle Ages (which he calls Dark Ages, using an outdated and mischaracterising adjective now considered unacceptable in academic circles) is unbearable and intellectually dishonest.

Historia
Mesopotamia is the ancient name for the region that is now Iraq, a remarkably advanced civilization that flourished for two-thirds of the time that civilization has existed on Earth. Mesopotamians mastered irrigation agriculture; built the first complex urban societies; developed writing, literature, and law; and united vast regions through warfare and diplomacy. While civilizations like Greece and Rome have an unbroken tradition of written histories, the rich history of Mesopotamia has only been recently rediscovered, thanks to the decipherment of Mesopotamia's cuneiform writing less than 200 years ago.

Interesting, but too condescending to mesopotamians
Revisado: 12-15-24
It was interesting and I learned a lot, but I disliked how often the author commented in a dismissive manner about the beliefs of ancient mesopotamians, infantilising them from a modern perspective.

Too much focus on technique
Revisado: 10-29-24
I expected to read a book about the lives of early humans, but it was much more oriented towards explaining the techniques of archaeology. I understand the importance of learning the means of investigation, but it ended up not being a book about what we’ve discovered, but rather about how we’ve discovered it.

Historia
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Good examples
Revisado: 06-13-24
The ideas of the book are well explained and made understandable by using adequate examples. The audio was lacking for me. Especially, when the person pretends to “whisper”. If I’m reading an audiobook while driving my car in the rain, the part that is whispered in a lower volume becomes impossible to hear.

A bad guide
Revisado: 06-08-24
So many of the solutions he offers are outdated, poorly constructed and unrealistic. This strikes me as written by a manager who has never been an employee on a non-leadership role. Completely misses the negative impact on culture and transparency of some of his comments.

Good concepts
Revisado: 06-06-24
It was useful, and it has very good points. I think I can apply many things, specially regarding the relationship between CEO and COO. Too much of the book was dedicated to publicise the COO Alliance, and that was super annoying. Also, the audio editing is possibly the worst I’ve heard on an audiobook.

Historia
Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

A few good insights drowned in an ocean of unfounded cliches. I didn’t hate it, but it was exhausting listening the nonsense in most of the chapters.
