Historia
In 1992, the deadliest year in Chicago’s history, seven-year-old Dantrell Davis was shot and killed in front of his elementary school inside the public housing complex Cabrini-Green. What happened to Dantrell led to a truce among Chicago’s gangs, but it also ignited a national panic about poverty and violence in America’s cities. Dantrell’s name would soon be used to demolish all of Chicago’s high-rise public housing, displacing tens of thousands of low-income families.

The recording keep and journalism was excellent

I liked the humanizing of the unsung characters and people of Cabrini-Green. It was a story that needed to be told because so often folks who have come from certain backgrounds are painted in one-dimension and they deserve to be the people that they are

Historia
Before mp3 players came along in the mid 1990's, listening to audiobooks was a pain. The number of titles was tiny, narration was dull, and if you wanted to listen on the go, you had to juggle a bunch of clunky cassettes. Don Katz faced these frustrations every day while jogging. He was an accomplished writer who thought there was something special and intimate about hearing an author's words spoken aloud. He wondered: what if audiobooks could be purchased online and downloaded onto a dedicated player? At the time, the concept was so new that few people knew what he was talking about. But in ...

Telling the story from the perspective of phone conversation was so unique and realistic I’m blown away! An excellent plot and testament to being a survivor.

Great book about the complexities of religion and spirituality
Revisado: 09-25-23
Personally love Marlon James’s books because of the realism when he talks about spirtualism and juju. This was an interesting read that I’m surprised I liked only because I thought it started off a little funny but of course character development is on point and narration is *chefs kiss* Robin Miles alwayssss gets the job done!

Historia
With his now-legendary store on 125th Street in Harlem, Dapper Dan pioneered high-end streetwear in the 1980s, remixing classic luxury-brand logos into his own innovative, glamorous designs. But before he reinvented haute couture, he was a hungry boy with holes in his shoes, a teen who daringly gambled drug dealers out of their money, and a young man in a prison cell who found nourishment in books. In this remarkable memoir, he tells his full story for the first time.

Phenomenal read.
Revisado: 07-19-19
Omari Hardwick did an excellent job narrating. This read should be available to fashion students undoubtedly. “Rags to riches” may be a misnomer, it’s simply not powerful enough of a description of Dapper Dan’s journey as an entrepreneur.
