Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Megan may have her whole life ahead of her, but it already feels like a dead end, thanks to her dreadful job as a gastroenterologist's receptionist and her heart-clogging resentment of the success and happiness of everyone around her. But no one stokes Megan's bitterness quite like her coworker, Jillian, a grotesquely optimistic, 35-year-old single mother whose chirpy positivity obscures her mounting struggles.

The Narration Made It!
Revisado: 08-29-24
This was narrated by the author, and the tone of the narration really set the tone for the whole book. I don’t think I would have experienced or interpreted the book in the same way if I had just read the words on a page. There are certain parts that, if I had read them on paper, would have seemed stupid. But when I listened to them read aloud, with the flat, listless tone of voice, I picked up on the satire, and those parts were humorous. I LOVED it!

Historia
Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

I'm easy to please with a book, but this was off.

Trigger Warning
Revisado: 05-14-23
This book starts with an extremely graphic rape scene. I just wanted to mention that for anyone who might be triggered by that.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Half cheesy romance novel, half garbage.
Revisado: 05-11-19
The characters lacked depth to the extent that it seemed like they were conceived by a child in a first writing assignment. The story line was a mix of cliche and gross implausibility. Large portions of the book seemed to have been borrowed from one of those cheap romance novels with Fabio on the cover that they sell in grocery stores. The author tosses around biology terminology in a lame attempt to elevate the subject matter, but it comes off as childish and under-researched. I don't know why I listened to the whole thing, but I immediately regretted it.
I've never written an Audible review, but this book was SO bad (and yet is rated so highly) that I felt compelled to. I hope it saves someone 12 hours of their life!
(Note: The narrator was great, she just didn't have good material to work with).
