Historia
When it was first published, Intuitive Eating was revolutionary in its anti-dieting approach. The authors, both prominent health professionals in the field of nutrition and eating disorders, urge listeners to embrace the goal of developing body positivity and reconnecting with one’s internal wisdom about eating—to unlearn everything they were taught about calorie-counting and other aspects of diet culture and to learn about the harm of weight stigma. Today, their message is more relevant and pressing than ever.

Life Changing Principles
Revisado: 02-03-24
After dieting for many years, counting macros and calories, measuring food, weighing myself daily, and restricting food, I continually gained weight. Whatever I was doing wasn't working. I came across Intuitive Eating while reading an article online. Its principles just make sense, and I realized not only does dieting not work, it's dangerous. I'm still on a journey, and learning to follow these principles, but I will never go back to diet culture. Definitely listen to this book, it will change your life.
The narrator sounds like a robot. I found her easier to listen to on 1.2x speed.

Historia
While many Westerners still think of yoga as an invigorating series of postures and breathing exercises, these physical practices are only part of a vast and ancient spiritual science. For more than three millennia, yoga sages systematically explored the essential questions of our human existence: What are the root causes of suffering, and how can we achieve freedom and happiness? What would it be like to function at the maximum potential of our minds, bodies, and spirits? What is an optimal human life?

Not what I thought it would be about
Revisado: 06-11-23
I was hoping to learn more about the meaning of yoga postures, how they came about, and how they can benefit us. I regularly practice yoga, and I was hoping to learn more about the benefits of the practice, both physical and mental. instead, this book focuses more on the spiritual aspect and history of yoga. I found this treatise to lack correlation to the yoga practice that is taught in the US.

Historia
A thrilling and revelatory narrative of one of the most epic and consequential periods in 20th century history - the Arab Revolt and the secret “great game” to control the Middle East. Lawrence in Arabia definitively overturns received wisdom on how the modern Middle East was formed. Sweeping in its action, keen in its portraiture, acid in its condemnation of the destruction wrought by European colonial plots, this is a book that brilliantly captures the way in which the folly of the past creates the anguish of the present.

Hard to Draw Parallels to the Movie
Revisado: 08-20-21
I really enjoy the classic movie Lawrence of Arabia. I had hoped this book would parallel the movie in some way, just having more details and character development. However, this book feels like a totally different story in many respects. There is a tremendous amount of historic fact, names and places. As someone who is not a history buff, I got lost in these details. At times a part of the book is similar to a scene in the movie, but in general they are quite different.

Revisado: 07-08-21
I am not a farmer, but I have a garden and I'm a supporter of regenerative agriculture. I learned a lot by listening to this book. I can speak more knowledgeably about regenerative farming and I feel like some of the principals can be applied to gardening as well.

Historia
When Lucie Amundsen had a rare night out with her husband, she never imagined what he'd tell her over dinner - that his dream was to quit his office job (with benefits!) and start a commercial-scale pasture-raised egg farm. His entire agricultural experience consisted of raising five backyard hens, none of whom had yet laid a single egg. To create this pastured poultry ranch, the couple scrambles to acquire nearly 2,000 chickens - all named Lola.

Revisado: 06-28-21
Pun intended :) I was surprised by how funny the author is, and how she could make me laugh just by describing life running a chicken farm. As a consumer of pasture-raised eggs, I learned a lot about what goes into producing an egg like this-- lots of hard work! I sure do appreciate the farmers that raised the chickens for my eggs now.

Historia
We’ve been told that a vegetarian diet can feed the hungry, honor the animals, and save the planet. Lierre Keith believed in that plant-based diet and spent twenty years as a vegan. But in The Vegetarian Myth, she argues that we’ve been led astray - not by our longings for a just and sustainable world, but by our ignorance. e truth is that agriculture is a relentless assault against the planet, and more of the same won’t save us. In service to annual grains, humans have devastated prairies and forests, driven countless species extinct, altered the climate, and destroyed the topsoil - the basis of life itself....

Enlightening at times
Revisado: 06-16-21
At times there are some really good points in this book. Written from the perspective of an ex-vegan, there is much to be learned if you're not familiar with that way of thinking and seeing the world. She also has some good points about solutions to the reasons people become vegan or vegetarian-- for moral or political reasons. Of these solutions is local farms, sustainable agriculture and opposition to factory farming practices.
About half way through the book it gets weird and dare I say off-topic. For the author, her views on diet are entangled with feminity. Although this doesn't resonate with me, I'm fine with it since it's her memoir. However, then she goes on to say that one of the solutions to not having enough food for humanity is more men need to get a vasectomy. In addition, she states that women a long time ago used to have to kill their children and that tough sacrifices are necessary for the need for survival. Wow. This is very extreme and a heartless solution. We need to raise children who value life andsustainable farming practices. I can't believe she would even go into not having children or doing away with them. I had to stop listening at that point.

One of my heroes!
Revisado: 05-26-21
I'm so glad I got to listen to her story from her point of view. As a woman math major and engineer in space science, I am honored to follow in her footsteps and grateful that she helped pave the way for me to do so. Although there could have been a few more details in the stories, I respect her decision to tell it like she wanted to. Next I want to listen to the biography about her written by two of her daughters.

Here, woven with his scintillating views on modern science, Feynman relates the defining moments of his accomplished life.

My Favorite Audiobook
Revisado: 12-03-20
This book was so much fun to listen to. The narrator does an amazing job building the main character, especially capturing his humor. This is now my favorite audiobook since it is so entertaining with its constant humor, space theme and suspense. Also, for those nerds out there, you will love the engineering and science concepts scattered throughout the book. If you love space and want to take a virtual journey to Mars then you should definitely listen to this book.

There is a lot of information packed into this book. It raises more questions than provides answers, but after listening to it you will be contemplating the nature of consciousness for awhile. Overall a good listen, and it brings up interesting ideas on how to define consciousness.
