Historia
Rising young comedian Moshe Kasher is lucky to be alive. He started using drugs when he was just 12. At that point, he had already been in psychoanlysis for 8 years. By the time he was 15, he had been in and out of several mental institutions, drifting from therapy to rehab to arrest to...you get the picture. But Kasher in the Rye is not an "eye opener" to the horrors of addiction. It's a hilarious memoir about the absurdity of it all.

Everyone struggling with addiction should read!
Revisado: 09-29-23
Moshe's narration (brilliant professional performance!) and selection of experiences he cobbles together from his childhood gripped me and sped me along. I finished it in two long bursts of emersion occasionally laughing out loud and always--as a woman in recovery and as a mother of college aged daughters who came into my life after I'd found a way to quit--tugging at my heart strings and soul. One would think I have nothing in common with Moshe (raised in bucolic suburbs, nice parts of cities where I was not the only white kid, and finishing high school in a resort mountain town, but each of those places I experienced the same seeking for escape that he did.
I have two wishes: 1) He'd edited out a few of his escapades and told more about what recovery felt like. 2) He told us what he's contributed now to the neighborhood he so vigorously trashed and stole from as an adolescent.

Historia
Russell Brand presents Recovery Radio - an on-demand alternative to the conventional 'meeting' - on Zone 1 Radio, the community radio stations for Central London. Russell talks to real people with compelling stories of addiction, dependency and recovery about how they deal with becoming ‘clean’ and preventing relapses back into addiction. The mood of the shows swings from the humorous to the harrowing and can be hard to listen to. Be warned, they also contain some extreme language. In this episode, Russell (13 years clean) talks to his guests Mark (20 years clean), Trevor (14 years ...

These recovery episodes are brilliant and relatable. Russel and these guests touch upon aspects of my addiction to alcohol that I’d never considered. Sooo helpful!

Historia
Oslo in November. The first snow of the season has fallen. A boy named Jonas wakes in the night to find his mother gone. Out his window, in the cold moonlight, he sees the snowman that inexplicably appeared in the yard earlier in the day. Around its neck is his mother’s pink scarf. Hole suspects a link between a menacing letter he’s received and the disappearance of Jonas’s mother - and of perhaps a dozen other women, all of whom went missing on the day of a first snowfall. As his investigation deepens, something else emerges: he is becoming a pawn....

I was raised on Lawrence Sanders detective stories I attribute my alcoholism in part to the normality of the characters quaffing drink after drink - but I also learned my vocabulary at the end of his pen. Love the twists and turns and immersive quality of this story!

Historia
"Most people think of love as a feeling," says David Richo, "but love is not so much a feeling as a way of being present." In this audiobook, Richo offers a fresh perspective on love and relationships - one that focuses not on finding an ideal mate, but on becoming a more loving and realistic person. Drawing on the Buddhist concept of mindfulness, How to Be an Adult in Relationships explores five hallmarks of mindful loving and how they play a key role in our relationships throughout life.

You have been lied to, told there's no alternative, no choice, and that you don’t deserve any better. Brand destroys this illusory facade as amusingly and deftly as he annihilates Morning Joe anchors, Fox News fascists, and BBC stalwarts. This audiobook makes revolution not only possible but inevitable and fun.

Historia
Heloise considers it a blessing to be a person who seldom attracts attention. In her suburb, she's just a mom, the young widow with the forgettable job, who somehow never misses a soccer game. In the state capital, she's the redheaded lobbyist with a good cause and a mediocre track record. But in discreet hotel rooms throughout the area, she's the woman of your dreams - if you can afford the hourly fee. For more than a decade, Heloise believed she was safe, managing to keep up this rigidly compartmentalized life. But her secret life is under siege. One county over, another so-called suburban madam has been found dead in her car, an apparent suicide.

Escalating Suspense! Beautifully Crafted Plot!
Revisado: 08-07-21
I LOVE Linda Edmond's performance of "and when she was good" and while I'd never heard of this book or Laura Lippman, I bought the AudioBook because of Linda's narration. She made me feel as if I was being told this story by a friend. I plan to read/listen to more Laura Lippman books because here she created a character I could get on board with, put her into a situation I couldn't see a way out of, and then let the games begin. Very satisfying! Impeccably clean writing that is effortless to listen to.
Typically I listen to multiple audiobooks and read kindle books simultaneously but this book cleared every other story out of my mind and I barreled through it while on a business trip. Absolutely could not put it down!
