Historia
Growing up gifted and working-class poor in the foothills of the Ozarks, Monica and Darci became fast friends. The girls bonded over a shared love of reading and learning, even as they navigated the challenges of their declining town and tumultuous family lives—broken marriages, alcohol abuse, and shuttered stores and factories. They pored over the giant map in their middle school classroom, tracing their fingers over the world that awaited them, vowing to escape. In the end, Monica left Clinton for college and fulfilled her dreams; Darci did not.

The book itself was very interesting and informative. As a woman who grew up in a rural, conservative, Christian southern town, everything was spot on. My only minor complaint throughout the entire book was the authors reading - every few paragraphs you can hear her clear and swallow her saliva and while I get that it’s a natural bodily response to that much speaking, it’s not something listeners should hear. The authors tone was great and I was genuinely impressed at how well she read through truly traumatic events from her and her loved ones’ lives. Overall a good listen otherwise.

Historia
In this pulse-pounding short thriller for fans of Big Little Lies and The Last Mrs. Parrish, Maggie Cabot refuses to sit by idly as police re-open an investigation into the mysterious death of a woman her husband used to know. After two decades in a near-perfect marriage, Maggie and James Cabot are enjoying their first year as empty-nesters in their charming Florida suburb, until two detectives arrive at their front door and change their lives forever.

Wow

So I’ll be honest. The story itself was great, it really was. Very interesting and kept you guessing the whole way through. The main character though? She may be the most unlikeable character in a book since Jack Torrence. Her whiny cattiness really takes away from the story, and you end up feeling more sorry for the culprit than her. The ending wasn’t great either, I guess I wanted a bit more surprise to it. Otherwise it’s a great listen, the narrator was fantastic and again, the story itself is good.

Historia
Samantha is a professional seductress and con artist with a heart of gold. If she talked about her work, she’d tell you she only pilfers organs for medical research and that she only takes one kidney, and she only steals those kidneys from dishonest people. It’s hell on her social life. Abe is the doctor and Sam's partner in crime. He isn’t much of a criminal. Except for the kidney stealing. But he’s using that money to fund his research that he anticipates will be able to cure diabetes. So, all for a good cause...? You decide. Of course, it's hell on his social life.

I was skeptical

I really went into this one expecting to not enjoy it but I was pleasantly surprised. This was well done. The story itself was interesting, the dialogue kept me laughing out loud, Meg Ryan was a fabulous narrator - even if I did keep thinking of Carole from Top Gun - and the whole thing was well done.
