Historia
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? In this elegant assessment of the human condition in the third millennium, cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, which play to our psychological biases. Instead, follow the data: Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise, not just in the West but worldwide.

Life is grand! And getting Better!!
Revisado: 11-12-18
I found this book very uplifting in in the face of media doom and gloom.
Steven Pinker proves with facts (data) that life is better than it ever has been before for the vast majority of people on earth. Yes, life is not perfect, yes, we still have serious problems facing humanity, yes there are pockets of tragedy throughout the world but humanity is progressing towards significantly better lives for the majority. We humans are emotional creatures. Thus, we have a strong propensity to not want to confuse the issues with facts. However, the facts show that on average the trends on almost all fronts are positive. Across the world and in most areas of the world there is less violence, more equality, broader human rights, more education, less poverty, starvation and sickness, longer life and yes more happiness. Steven Pinker makes a thoughtful and rational case that all of these trends have been going on for hundreds of years and are continuing today. The book is at times tedious and redundant but Steven leaves no stone unturned. It took me several months to get through this but it was worth every minute. If you want a good, quick summary of the book I recommend Steven Pinker's 15-minute TED Talk first. But I highly recommend that everyone take the time to wade through this book.
In summary life is grand and getting better.
