Historia
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Renee Ballard is terrific!
Revisado: 11-03-24
I love Harry Bosch novels - and the addition of Renee Ballard is great! It was really terrific to have the actors who play Harry and Maddy Bosch in the television series actually read their parts. Hurry up, Michael Connelly - we need another case!

Historia
Tattooed, pierced, and a bit of a mess, Maggie Moore is a surprising genius when it comes to words, a savant able to solve any linguistic puzzle. The top student in her forensic linguistics class, she’s tapped by local police to use her skills to decipher harrowing notes left by a stalker-turned-rapist—and succeeds brilliantly. But when the daughter of a local mayor is abducted, Maggie isn’t sure she’s the right person to help the police solve the crime. Given what happened to her best childhood friend, Maggie just might be too close to this one.

Word geeks, unite!
Revisado: 10-05-24
Please tell me this is the first in a series! I read a review that compared Maggie Moore to Lisbeth Salander, and they're not wrong - although, perhaps not quite as damaged. Maggie is smart, snappy and....a sentence diagrammer! Her partner in crime detection, Jackson, is a middle-aged policeman whose special skill is an eagle eye - literally - his vision is particularly sharp. They're a terrific partnership. Get writing, Stella Sands - I need to know what happens next.

A most beautifully written mystery
Revisado: 08-13-24
I was sorry for this one to end. These characters were just who you want to read about. It's a mystery, it's a love story, it's a coming of age story, it's a story of redemption. And, Edoaardo Ballerini has, once again, been the perfect reader!

This is the feel-good book of the decade! Norman is a delight, Sadie has the fear of every mother and they're both "adopted" by a delightful elderly man who becomes their fairy-god father. And, Katherine Parkinson is a perfect narrator! Oh, and Jax will really never be gone.

Historia
When she was twenty-six and broke, Skye didn’t think twice before selling her eggs and happily pocketing the cash. Now approaching forty, Skye still moves through life entirely—and unrepentantly—on her own terms, living out of a suitcase and avoiding all manner of serious relationships. Maybe her junior high classmates weren’t wrong when they voted her “Most Likely to Be Single” instead of “Most Ride-or-Die Homie,” but at least she’s always been free to do as she pleases.

Historia
Rife with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York’s one-percenters, Pineapple Street is a smart, escapist novel that sparkles with wit. Full of recognizable, loveable—if fallible—characters, it’s about the peculiar unknowability of someone else’s family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love—all wrapped in a story that is a sheer delight.

When a home aide arrives to assist a rambunctious family at a crossroads, simmering tensions boil over in this “witty, exuberant debut” (People) that is an “absolute delight from start to finish” (Sarah Haywood, New York Times best-selling author) perfect for fans of Where’d You Go, Bernadette and Evvie Drake Starts Over.

This story will lift you up
Revisado: 03-26-21
If you loved "A Man Called Ove," (and, I did) you will truly enjoy this novel. The characters are truly characters and delightfully wonderful. There's the nutter of a grandmother, the dad going through what can best be described as a midlife crisis, and the teenaged daughter who merely wants to fit in. By the end, I wanted to be a part of this family.

but you'd be wrong. This is a great book. A book without any particularly likable or redeeming characters, but what characters they are! There's the writer; there's the assistant; there's the editor. It's a quick listen (seriously, listen to it at 1-1/2 - it lends a certain frenzy to the story line) and you won't be able to turn it off.

A lot has changed since Ambrosia Wellington graduated from college, and she’s worked hard to create a new life for herself. But then an invitation to her ten-year reunion arrives in the mail, along with an anonymous note that reads, “We need to talk about what we did that night.” It seems Ambrosia’s past—and the people she thoughts she’d left there—aren’t as buried as she believed. Amb can’t stop fixating on what she did or who she did it with: larger-than-life Sloane “Sully” Sullivan, Amb’s former best friend, who could make anyone do anything.

Not a likable character in the book!
Revisado: 03-20-21
Just know, if you have to like a character to enjoy a book, this one is really not for you! Me? I just like well written, character driven novels - and this one has it in spades. Definitely a psychological thriller and interestingly enough, turns out just as you hope it will - well maybe. Each character is fairly well fleshed out, with your loyalties being tested as to who you think you like (well, got that wrong, didn't you?) and in the end, you'll question whether you really want to go to that next college reunion.
