Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

Dashed higher hopes for this historical mystery
Revisado: 10-24-23
I had higher hopes for this novel. Despite the girly cover, I thought it had potential. But from the opening copied right out of Downton Abbey, to the modern entitled-woman attitude of the main character, to the thinly veiled mystery, it was ho-hum. I must say that the narrator is entertaining, so I did listen to the whole story.

Historia
With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Timeless tale of “that Anne girl”
Revisado: 05-23-23
This book is so good for the soul. There is charm throughout the story with humor and vibrance. The language is colorful, especially when describing the various seasons in Prince Edward Island. Anne Shirley is the bosom friend I wish but never had.

Historia
Charles Dickens and Nelly Ternan met in 1857; she was 18, a hard-working actress performing in his production of The Frozen Deep, and he was 45, the most lionized writer in England. Out of their meeting came a love affair that lasted 13 years and destroyed Dickens's marriage while effacing Nelly Ternan from the public record.

A unique insight
Revisado: 01-04-23
I didn’t expect to hear about the fascinating world of the Victorian theatre in a story entwined with Charles Dickens, but there nestled in this hidden history, it was. Claire Tomalin has done some serious research for the entire book, not just the Victorian theatre. I highly recommend it. The narration by Wanda McCaddon had good tone and rhythm and the British accent made it a joy to listen to.

Read very well
Revisado: 07-02-22
The performance is so well done! It is easy to listen to. This novel is better than most novels 160+ years old. I liked the mystery and the collecting of the “new” idea of circumstantial evidence.
