Hidden in the depths of eighteenth-century London, a secret apothecary shop caters to an unusual kind of clientele. Women across the city whisper of a mysterious figure named Nella who sells well-disguised poisons to use against the oppressive men in their lives. Drivel
Revisado: 08-31-23
Awful. Florid language. completely unrealistic characters. I thought that the idiotic woman from the US read like a harlequin romance heroine. So it was funny to see this was produced by that exact publisher. if you liked Twilight this is for you. it's not for me. I guess this is why I picked it up on the Audible sales rack.

Historia
Emily Craig has been a witness to history, helping to seek justice for thousands of murder victims, both famous and unknown. It’s a personal story that you won’t soon forget. Emily first became intrigued by forensics work when, as a respected medical illustrator, she was called in by the local police to create a model of a murder victim’s face. Her fascination with that case led to a dramatic midlife career change: She would go back to school to become a forensic anthropologist - and one of the most respected and best-known “bone hunters” in the nation.

This is a great autobiography and will be very useful for anyone interested in forensic anthropology. warning, the author is factual and unsparing in her description of rather gruesome material.

Historia
In Manhattan, a young grad student gets off the train and realizes he doesn't remember who he is, where he's from, or even his own name. But he can sense the beating heart of the city, see its history, and feel its power. In the Bronx, a Lenape gallery director discovers strange graffiti scattered throughout the city, so beautiful and powerful it's as if the paint is literally calling to her. In Brooklyn, a politician and mother finds she can hear the songs of her city, pulsing to the beat of her Louboutin heels.

This is a wonderful collection of thoughts and collected inspirations from various sources. Best consumed in small bites with time to contemplate in between listens. I listened in the morning before work most often. The negative reviews are baffling to me.

Historia
This is the story of an apparently young, amnesiac girl whose alarmingly unhuman needs and abilities lead her to a startling conclusion: She is in fact a genetically modified, 53-year-old vampire. Forced to discover what she can about her stolen former life, she must at the same time learn who wanted - and still wants - to destroy her and those she cares for and how she can save herself.

Great author. But this is 1 star.
Revisado: 10-17-21
The writing is not the best by this author. The Imago series is amazing as are many of her other works. The vampire creatures have an overwhelming amount of positive traits with no real downside other than inability to move in daylight which the main character has overcome. It removes the tension of immortality at a price. The highly sexual main character is described as a child. This is an obvious issue and doesn't add to the story at all other than invoking pederasty regularly. Finally, the narrator has a beautiful voice that has the same tone, tenor and pace in battle scenes, grieving scenes, sex scenes, making lunch scenes. So it's pretty bad.

Hatshepsut - the daughter of a general who usurped Egypt's throne and a mother with ties to the previous dynasty - was born into a privileged position in the royal household, and she was expected to bear the sons who would legitimize the reign of her father's family. Her failure to produce a male heir was ultimately the twist of fate that paved the way for her improbable rule as a cross-dressing king.

Revisado: 09-26-21
I think the subject matter is interesting. And I am a fan of intelligent and interesting non-fiction. I can't get past the author's repeated psycho-analysis of various figures that is seemingly unsupported by any kind of reference. Clearly, she is knowledgeable. But what aspects of her knowledge allowed her to leap to her conclusion. I kept wondering if the author was called to write historical fiction? Or maybe there is a paucity of material? I don't know, but anyone could guess about what ancient Egyptians were thinking and what emotions they had. Disappointed bc I was interested in learning more.

I am active and I am busy and I love to read books. it is why I am an Audible subscriber. This was an excellent supplement to the materials I received from NASM. It allowed me to study while I did other tasks. The narrator has a pleasant voice and does an excellent job compiling the material. I really was grateful for this resource.

Interesting, but could have been more concise
Revisado: 08-16-21
It's an interesting case and very sad for mother and son. Feel like it could have been shorter. Also there many instances when the dramatic music starts, dramatic tone ensues and with great fanfare a mundane fact is revealed. Also, there are definitely times when a dispute with a work colleague is revisited seemingly bc Paul Holes wants the last word. Kinda funny bc it's 25+ years later and your colleague has probably forgotten.

Good content. Terrible choice for narrator. The narrator's delivery is mechanical and souless. This narrator is best suited to technical manuals. Great book from an interesting person. Narrator awful.
