A childhood favorite read by an amazing narrator!
Revisado: 02-15-19
I always thought this adventure would make for a great film trilogy so long as it was made with the same care and attention to detail that the Lord of the Rings trilogy was.
Now looking back on a book that brought me so much joy as a tween when I probably read this book at least three times, I am glad to say that my experience listening to Dragon Rider for the first time brought the same excitement that I felt so long ago.
Brendan Fraser brings so much personality to the characters. When/if Dragon Rider is made into a movie, I hope Sorrel's voice sounds just like or similar to his interpretation of the Scottish Brownie. But what makes Fraser so good is how he can voice the lovable sassy Brownie in one instant and then voice the menacing and nasty Nettlebrand the next and sound convincing. But it's not just the voices, some of the sound effects that he did are impressive too! This is one of my favorite performances by a narrator in any audiobook and I hope to listen to more from Brandon Fraser in the future.

The Overlords appeared suddenly over every city - intellectually, technologically, and militarily superior to humankind. Benevolent, they made few demands: unify earth, eliminate poverty, and end war. With little rebellion, humankind agreed, and a golden age began.

A sci-fi masterpiece!
Revisado: 06-03-18
The Childhood's End audiobook might have the most emotional ending to a book that I've experienced. The story itself is incredible and unique but the dramatic narration accompanied by the music makes the waning moments of the book somber, chilling, and yet poetic.
I don't normally relisten to audiobooks, but the manageable 8 hour length and the fantastic narration makes this one that I will happily relisten to in the future.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Weird at first, loved it by the end.
Revisado: 04-09-18
It took me a while to get into it, but this was a fun dystopian adventure story. I just really wish that they used the voice actors voices throughout the book instead of switching between the narrator and them in certain scenes as it made understanding who was who very confusing. Especially because multiple people have the same voice.
But regardless, it was a lot of fun to listen to, and the woman who did Lady Jessica and the Princess Irilan's voice was so pretty and guy who did Vladimir Harkanan's voice was so awesome!

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

I felt it had a slow beginning, a good middle that started to drag on for a bit, and then an amazing ending. I was not expecting it to end up the way that it did and it was very chilling. Simon Preble is an awesome narrator and I can't recommend this book enough. As long as you trek through the boring parts I assure that you will be rewarded by the shocking ending.

What made the experience of listening to Star Wars: Ahsoka the most enjoyable?
If you're a big Star Wars fan like me which includes the prequels as well as the original trilogy, then you watched the Star Wars the Clone Wars TV show. Prior to that, you also probably watched the horrendous Star Wars the Clone Wars movie. My first impressions with the film and the very beginning episodes of the show was that it was way too kid-friendly for me and Ahsoka Tano was the worst character out of the bunch. But as the show started to pick up in its maturity and get deeper, Ahsoka slowly became my favorite character by the series end. And when the show left you on a cliff hanger as to the whereabouts and destiny of Ahsoka, I HAD to find out what happened to her.
If you were expecting her to be a bad ass going around killing Storm Troopers and fighting for the Rebel Alliance, you'll be disappointed with this book. In fact, there is hardly any fighting at all in the book. And sadly, due to Order 66, Ahsoka doesn't even have her dual lightsabers like the cover of the book would suggest. So what happens for the majority of the book?... Not a lot if I'm going to be perfectly honest.
But if you were a fan of her character development throughout the show like I was, then you'll almost find as much enjoyment in the book as I did. Her conflict with trying to forge her own path versus thinking like a Jedi is an interesting dilemma that she constantly struggles with throughout the book. It's also sad that she has no idea that Obi-Wan is alive on Tatooine watching over Luke and of the fate of her former master Anakin Skywalker. The relationships she forms with the farmers of Raeda and the Fardis just feels so natural and you really feel for Ahsoka when she realizes that she has to keep moving and leave her friends and not stand and fight in the fear that it will bring more deadly repercussions from the empire.
What I enjoyed:
*I listened to the audiobook and Ashley Eckstein the voice actress from the TV shows narrates the book! While she doesn't narrate in the first person which would have been AMAZING, it still does feel like it's an autobiography with Ahsoka telling her own story and Ashley makes Ashoka as lovable as she became in the show.
*The audiobook also had sound effects like blaster fire, music, and Ashley's voice was altered when she was impersonating the storm troopers which was really cool. She had a few voices that she wasn't the best at, but overall, it was a very pleasant listen and I highly recommend the book.
*The flashbacks. Every time the book took us back to a memory that Ahsoka had from her training with Anakin, Obi-Wan, or Yoda, it was really cool to be able to relive it with her. I wish that there were more moments like these within the book.
*The origins of the Rebel Alliance. It was awesome to see Ahsoka teaming up with an important figure from the movies to establish the foundation in for the Rebel Alliance to be born.
What I didn't Like:
*At times, you can tell that the book was directed towards children. Some of the dialogue and the explanations for things seemed excessive and it definitely led to some annoyed eye-rolling from me.
*Ahsoka's unofficial no-killing policy. There are many moments throughout the book that Ahsoka would have been so much better off if she was willing to kill her pursuers. Instead, she constantly elects to force push them and never utilizes her blaster. And the one being that she does kill, it wasn't even intentional either. Had the being not been as aggressive, would she have had the guts to perform the evil deed?
*The book was way too short! The ending was so exciting!... But very rushed too. I wanted to see what happened next. I wanted Ahsoka to find out what happened to Anakin. I wanted to find out more about Ahsoka's past. I wanted to follow Ahsoka on many more adventures as she progressed in power and her confidence in herself grew.
If you like Ahsoka as a character in the Clone War TV show, read the book. If you want an action packed Star Wars adventure, you'd be better looking elsewhere. I loved the book and I highly recommend the audiobook version.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Star Wars: Ahsoka?
When Ahsoka took the "creature's" force crystals in its circular lightsaber and manipulated them into a white saber for herself. It was so bad ass that she was able to beat it without having a lightsaber of her own.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A powerful force wielder on the run fighting to make the galaxy safe one moon at a time.
Any additional comments?
A great book aimed towards children and an even better audiobook!

I constantly find myself saying poor Ciri!
Revisado: 08-08-17
What did you love best about The Lady of the Lake?
I'm afraid if I met her in the real world, I'd accidentally kill her via smothering from hugging her so hard. I've always sympathized for her in the other stories, but with the stakes at an all time high in the series finale. and Peter Kenny's fantastic voice narration, I have never felt closer to the action.Andrzej Sapkowski once again proves that he can write an engaging story that involves truly complex themes. And he tells the story in a Quentin Tarantino like way that makes you have to wait until you reach the end before you can have a full understanding of all of the events that have taken place. And even with the ending, you still are left puzzled wondering what exactly it means to have the elder blood and what Ciri is truly capable of.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lady of the Lake?
When Geralt and his companions stormed Vilgevortz's fortress in an attempt to rescue Ciri and Yennifer. Geralt and Yennifer take on Vilgevortz while Ciri has a showdown with Bonhart.
What does Peter Kenny bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
What's funny is, at first, I didn't like Kenny's voice. It sounded so weird and was not what I expected it to be. Yet somehow, his accent which sounds somewhat Irish to me, worked really well for characters like Geralt, Dandelion, Regis, Vilgevortz, and many other side characters. Naturally, didn't work very well for the majority of the female characters and especially ones that spoke in a high-pitched voice such as Francesca Findabair and he was even worse when he tried to be sassy with female characters like Yennifer or Fringilla. However, somehow his best voice was for Cirilla of Vengerberg, daughter of Yennefer.Somehow, he was able to not only replicate a convincing female voice for her, but one that represented vulnerability, naiveness, and one that was also very defiant and would do anything to be back with the ones that she loved. You can't help but root for her the entire time. And there was a point in the book where Peter Kenny speaks as Ciri in a weeping tone that was so convincing, that I was nearly brought to tears. A very moving performance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Ciri stood up to the lodge proclaiming Yennifer to be her mother and she called Geralt her dad.
Any additional comments?
This book is confusing. It has a bizarre ending, and the politics is an intriguing jumbled mess that could have been done without. But the overall story of Ciri, Geralt and his companions, and Yennifer is top notch and makes for a grand finish to this epic seven book series. Well worth the listen!
4.5 out of 5 stars. Take out some of the politics and a couple of the non-important side character story-arcs and this is easily one of the best books that I have ever read.
