What an expedition through time...all the old family names, their machinations made clear...perfection. Buy this book now. If that period is a hazy piece of your education these two books will clarify it all. Getting to know the man who lived it is frosting on the cake.

I want to be sure and note at the start that the narrator made this a difficult listen. She is not incapable or inarticulate - she is STILTED. Oh, how lacking in any intonation she was! It felt almost as though a computer was generating the words. Is this her usual style? Does she try to avoid making nonfiction seem more fictional by not adding anything to the words? I don't know. She had a great voice. But it made this book quite a bit longer to me...that said...

The tale of Natalie Curtis, Carol Stanley, Alice Klauber, and Mary Cabot Wheelwright and their wild excursions and lives in the west was absolutely stunning. There is no way to sum it up. Each life lived to the hilt. Each risking - well, nearly everything - to live the life they desired rather than that dictated to them by family scions and society.

I was referred to this book by the wonderful Ed at Mountain & Prairie podcast when he hosted Jillian Lukiwski. Defniitely worth a listen as she seems to me to be an echo of those ladies of the land. Do give this book a try and absolutely gift it to young ladies who are...unsettled in their lives. You do not know what good it might bring them.

I was unfamiliar with the series but it seemed to fit my preferences so I took a chance on it. The story was well-paced and the narration quite good considering the tactical-speak was rather heavy in this tale. He managed to provide a compelling sense of adrenaline. However, the female voices were...oh, just not great...a bit too saccharine considering some of them were warriors. Trust me when I say women don't need male narrators to put on a girly voice - a slight edit is quite enough to guide us to the character speaking.

The surprising aspect of the story was that the tactical aspect was not bad. So many books dwell so much on gear and details that you wonder if they aren't trying to find a way to buy things and get a tax break, calling it book research. Here it was only a wee bit too much detail. Not bad, really. Just a bit too much info here and there.

I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, though. Sort of...rushed to closure. That just means I'll have to get the next one in the series, I suppose! All in all I found it quite reasonably written and an enjoyable escape.

It is surprising how prescient some of the aspects of this book seem, now. I won't go into the author's later psychic break or - if you prefer - ascension - but this seems a start of that process.

The tale can be delineated better by others but I found it very intriguing (especially being married to law enforcement) and saddening. I thought the ending a bit rushed - as if he found no good way to continue and just wanted to get it to market. But I am not a big brain type - my opinion is just that. Still, it was very thought provoking which is all one can ask from a book.

The narration - which I consider to be a major aspect of any Audible offering - was very good. Suited the material very well.

This book (superbly narrated) truly captures the feelings and beliefs of an entire segment of society that is largely ignored and/or ridiculed by most media sources. Do you think you know the Flyovers? I ask only that you listen, consider, and reevaluate your own beliefs. Well worth the effort.

I read this book religiously each autumn as a child, letting the lilting language wash over my brain and wishing I could write in that same way.

You will find better, detailed reviews of the story here so I won't belabor the points - simply know that this is the BEST glimpse into the minds of men and boys you, as a woman, may get. I think Mr. Bradbury has given us a great gift in that - you can feel the stirrings and understand.

Christian Rummel, though - holy hell, did he bring this tale to LIFE. PERFECT inflection, delicious purring evil tempting you to stay another hour in the book. He narrated the book so that it sounded precisely as it did in my mind all those years....I was really afraid it'd not live up to my wishes but he kicked ass on this project. It could, frankly, be used to teach narrators how to do the job well.

SO pleased with the purchase!! I will delve into it year after year for that same glorious drowning in prose.

Here's Hoping R. Pike Narrates Addt'l Books!

Wow! I was hoping for a really good rendition of the author's voice in this offering and my hopes were all met with Rosamund Pike's narration. Sure, she is very familiar with the tale! But add in her comfort with the storyline, with the language of the day used in the story, and her delightful accent and you have a WINNER. I was gently amused at her slight adjustments in tone for each character - nothing overt, just the right difference for each so that you knew who was speaking.

I have very high hopes that she chooses to narrate other books in the future. She really was quite good. I have a dream that C.J. Cherry's Morgaine series is re-read by Ms. Pike - oh, she could do a great job with that material! Brava, sweet lady! You made this book new again!

P.S. If you are looking for a review of the story itself - well, I am confident that you can find a great review from someone! It is simply a classic tale!

Amazing collection of her best work, read in a manner that ensured comprehension. I found myself nodding over and over as her predictions of outcome were manifested in today's news. Please give this book to your children. If I'd had it at 15 years of age my life would have been so much easier. The narrator was perfect. If you have struggled to understand Rand in written form, these Audible offerings will be your remedy as they were mine.
