Historia
New York Times best-selling author Margaret George captures history's most enthralling queen-as she confronts rivals to her throne and to her heart. One of today's premier historical novelists, George dazzles here as she tackles her most difficult subject yet: the legendary Elizabeth Tudor, queen of enigma - the Virgin Queen who had many suitors; the victor of the Armada who hated war; the gorgeously attired, jewel-bedecked woman who pinched pennies.

Historia
Pre-war debutantes were members of the most protected, not to say isolated, stratum of 20th-century society: the young (17-20) unmarried daughters of the British upper classes. For most of them, the war changed all that for ever. It meant independence and the shock of the new, and daily exposure to customs and attitudes that must have seemed completely alien to them. For many, the almost military regime of an upper-class childhood meant they were well suited for the no-nonsense approach needed in wartime.

Very interesting look at a class of people, told in their words, that most never see. This books goes deep in to what the Debutant ladies endured and excelled at during the war years. Wonderfully written and read!

Amazingly Self Important Do Not Buy This!
Revisado: 11-05-24
I now understand why the Royal Family called her “AK-47” because this drivel comes across like Ms. Kelly made, or advised, every important decision the Queen ever made. So self-important! “I designed…” and “I advised…” and “I made the decision that…” made me turn to book off half way through. I kept waiting for it to be about the job, the clothes, the relationship, but it always came back to how Ms. Kelly did something important. Please, don’t listen to this, don’t give her the money from purchasing it.

Historia
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

Wow! So interesting and deep. This must have been so hard to write after so much pain. The narration is incredible. Way better to listen to than to read in a book.

Didn’t Want It To End
Revisado: 06-03-24
The words are so beautiful. The characters come to life. I wanted to know more. I felt the joy and the pain that the characters felt. I’d read a menu if Mr. Toibin wrote it.
Wonderful follow up to “Brooklyn” but written so well it’s not necessary to have read it to know what’s happening in this book. The depth and the humanism in the characters is so skillful. Just beautifully written.
The performance is wonderful! Such an easy voice to listen to and such nice characterizations. It was easy to get the feelings and the emotions. Truly a great performance. I’m not easy to impress. Far too many of these books are just read. This is performed.

Revisado: 06-02-24
I’ve worked with Kacie as a travel agent, she planned a 3 week trip for my family to Italy. I knew she was funny, engaging, sweet, and interesting but she is so much more! This book is so enjoyable! I devoured it! I’m giving hard copies to my daughters and all the young women in my life. Kacie found a whole new world by taking that first step, a solo trip that she always wanted to try. It changed her life. Read that again, it CHANGED her life. In a huge way!! Go for the trip! Take the new job! Move to the new city! Write the book! Eat the good gelato! Kacie is proof you just have to try!

Best Evidence Yet
Revisado: 05-03-24
Of the Windsor biographies I’ve absorbed, this has neatly and methodically shown a great deal of actual evidence that the Windsors, especially the Duchess, was a Nazi sympathizer, at the least. I was amazed to hear how deep the research was, letters quoted and a variety of those from all sides. Hearing how they were so disliked by the family, had no motivation to do good in the world, and how superior they felt, it feels oddly similar that we are in a time now of History repeating itself in California.

Historia
Did you know that there are more penises than women in the Bayeux Tapestry? That the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 was started and propelled by women who were protesting a tax on women? Or that Charles Darwin believed not just that women were naturally inferior to men, but that they’d evolve to become ever more inferior? These are just a few of the startling findings you will learn from listening to Philippa Gregory’s Normal Women. In this ambitious book, she tells the story of England over 900 years, for the very first time placing women—some fifty per cent of the population—center stage.

Everything you wanted to know about women and society and even some things you didn’t think you wanted to know but are glad you do now! So much time and effort went in to this book. Absolutely not the usual Historical Fiction. I’ve already used it in conversations and to discuss points and even to correct my own mistakes. Should be a must read in college courses!

It makes me want to read a book by Will’s father, he sounds like a man with incredible advice and knowledge. I’m excited to implement some of these ideas in my offices.

Given to Miss Verinder on her 18th birthday, it mysteriously disappears that very night. Suspicion falls on three Indian jugglers who have been seen in the neighbourhood. Pretty Good For the First Mystery Novel
Revisado: 03-11-24
I decided to listen after hearing this is considered the first mystery novel according to author Lucy Worsley. I had been listening to her book about Agatha Christie that was recently released and decided to give this a listen. It’s a very interesting perspective, being told from several different “participants” points of view. I’m surprised it took this long for the genre to be started.
Performance was very good. Easy to listen to and easy to tell characters apart. I loved the different accents. A good book for a long drive. Or four or five long drives. It’s a really long book.
