just ok
Revisado: 10-03-21
started out well but twists were predictable for a reader of this genre ending disappointing and abrupt. slow in the middle almost like the author wrote the beginning left it came back and finished off quickly normal depth to the female protagonist the suspense at the end is not suspenseful because the reader knows the outcome from the way it is written ie the crime and the perpetrator is where the story starts

But with so many potential avenues of exploration, it can often seem daunting to try to understand it. Where does one even start?

Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

When I arrive unannounced at my husband's studio in need of a shoulder to cry on after hearing that my best student, Alex, has died, I see a pair of wineglasses drying by the sink, and my deepest fear is confirmed: my husband is having an affair. Instead, I go home and cook a healthy dinner for our children, walk the dog, and unload the dishwasher without complaint. I need this marriage to work to protect a terrible secret of my own....

A few twists and turns too many
Revisado: 02-02-21
Excellent story line. Good suspense but too many side stories and most important twist is plunked in unsupported. Confused as to what is the main story. 1of the story lines should have been left out. Had to slog through what could have been a really good book.

Really Good
Revisado: 09-24-20
The story line was different than the average mystery/procedural novel. The plot development was excellent well placed twists and turns. There was a good after story. Often a reader waits for the crime/mystery solution then the book has an abrupt end.
In this novel mystery was solved but then the author went on to develop the back story. The characters had just enough depth but giving the feeling that there was something left but not missing to come in future books
I loved the performance with all the different lilting accents.
Good job all around
