good story, some confusing unexplained details
Revisado: 02-28-25
Was magenta a creature that "contained" multiple aliens in one body? The author refers to magenta as they or them repeatedly. was there some explanation I missed or is it just a strange word choice for an individual that the author used? it had me scratching my head for sure. Otherwise the book was very good.

a couple people go around deciding which crimes to participate in and which of their employers to scam. kind of got old after the third episode. decent narration. also it's not really a podcast, it's more of a novel with episodes instead of chapters.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Good book
Revisado: 10-25-24
Despite being heavily sprinkled with California extremism throughout, the story is entertaining. Also, the protagonist clearly behaves much in the same way as Joe Bishop from his other series. Except for the name, they are the same character inserted into a different scenario.

Historia
It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Enjoyable adaptation of 1984

Although the book is set in England, it seems more like it was written as an indictment of the Democratic party in the United States of America. Scary parallels, for sure. It's hard to believe it was written 75 years ago.

Not great, save your money for a better book
Revisado: 05-17-23
Not sure why audible has this listed as hard sci-fi. This isn't. It's about aliens on mars, or their leftovers. It's full of absurd pseudoscience. It moves so slow that it was a real drag to listen to this. If the author could have consolidated the story into a single book it it might have been better. The narrator was pretty good but only just.
Can't say I'd recommend this to anyone.

Historia
2045, the Arctic Circle. A crew of six aboard the research vessel, The Nox, embark upon a voyage through the melting ice and Arctic dark in search of the last of the polar bears. The mission represents a ray of hope in a world ravaged by climate change, but it quickly becomes clear that some on board are in search of more than bears. Isolation and the disorientation of 24/7 darkness soon have the group losing their grip on reality – accidents, nightmares, or hauntings – no one can be sure, but the voyage seems cursed.

terrible distractions ruined this story.
Revisado: 10-31-22
The story is chock full of left wing political rhetoric. So much rhetoric that it ruined what otherwise might have been a good story. I'm glad it was a freebie!

good but not great
Revisado: 10-24-22
the story is fairly entertaining although frustrating. all six books end with no resolution and that gets old. it's almost hunting after book six a there is an included afterward immediately after you find out there is no resolution to the original conflict... again at least the narrator is excellent.

this book, like many in the genre starts very slowly in a post Apocalyptic wasteland. if you can stick with it, the story gets quite good. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Wheaton fail
Revisado: 06-25-21
this is weird to say because I'm a huge Wheaton fan. the narration isn't good. Kind of ruined it for me. luckily this book is now free, so I'm not mad.
also for some reason I was expecting hard science fiction
then the author starts talking about ox tox at 70% o2. ugh what nonsense. that gives you a ppo2 around 0.0042 and even 1.00 is survivable pretty much indefinitely. in short, this story is entertaining but it wouldn't be less scientifically accurate if Skippy the magnificent turned up.
