I came of age in the late Cold War, I planned a career as a military officer in the US Army. I still enjoy novels and media of the Cold War Gone Hot, and Leo Barron's "OPLAN Fulda World War III" is one of the best. You can tell that the author has real experience in the Armored forces, and I loved the focus on combat units at Fulda Gap and the battles starting at the Inter German Border, in contrast to novels like the great "Red Storm Rising" that have much of the naval, air and other operations.

I really enjoyed the characters of the US and Soviet armies right there in the thick of it. The narrative has a lot of details of how armored forces operate, and it has an authentic feel.

The narrator did a good job, his German and Russian are better than mine, and most of his pronunciations were good. He pronounced the armor-piercing shots "Sabot" Saa-bow as in the French, but the US Army tankers I've known pronounced it as "SAY-bow" so that was just a little off, but not a big deal.

I recommend this novel to anyone that likes tanks, Cold War history, and alternative history as well as thrillers.

I first read Robert Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" when I was 18 years old. It is a great story, with appealing and relatable characters, and it gave me somethings to think about. It helped me think about my responsibilities as an adult and a citizen, and particularly about the importance of my vote.

I've re-read "Starship Troopers" about once a year since then, and I think RC Bray's new narration really brings a lot. I honestly laughed out loud at Sergeant Zim's dialogue, especially. Bray makes the quiet moments pleanent and the tense moments exciting.

I've been a "Star Wars" fan since I was 4 years old and my big sister took me to see the original. I had "Heir to the Empire" and many others in paperback in the 1990s, "Legends" could be hit-and-miss but Timothy Zahn was always great. I like to think the "Legends" stories happened in a multiverse not unlike Marvel's.

So, I'm truly enjoying this anniversary audio version of "Heir to the Empire", the narrator is excellent, and he has found a good "voice" for every important character. The sound effects and snippets of John Williams' classic music make this a special treat, and Zahn's story is as exciting and as enjoyable to experience as it was back when it was first published. This story introduces Mara Jade, and she is one of my all-time favorite characters.

Also, the way the narrator pronounces "Joruus C'Baoth" is *much* cooler than the way I was pronouncing it. (He says Suh-bay-oth, I used to say Kuh-BAY-oth), so I like that too. I'll be buying "Dark Force Rising" and "The Last Command" very soon, it's so good to revisit these old friends.

I have had Peter Watts SF novel "Blindsight" recommended to me multiple times, and after listening to it I think it is a remarkable and profound work of Hard Science Fiction. Basically in a future where much of humanity is withdrawing to virtual existance, reality is brought into sharp focus by an event of extraterrestrial origin, and a crew of people that are quite unusual is sent to make First Contact with aliens.

The real heart of the story though is it's examinations of personality, social interactions, intelligence, and consciousness. It leads to places that I think are more frightening than most horror stories, and in a way the whole novel has a tone like a great horror story.

I think the narrator did an exceptional job of setting and keeping the tone and of differentiating the characters.

For me "Blindsight" was personally effecting, I'm very glad I got to experience it. The characters and the profound implications of this story will stay with me.

I first read Tolkien when I was 19. I've read "The Hobbit", "LOTR", and "The Silmarillion" multiple times, I adore the Peter Jackson "LOTR" films, and I'm excited for "The Rings of Power" series.

I wanted to revisit this old friend, and I found this version read by Andy Serkis. I'm just past Chapter One, and I'm so enjoying it. Andy Serkis' performance is charming and passionate, he is making my old favorite feel brand new. I'd say you cannot go wrong with this title.
